[#12940916]

Off to Coniston at the weekend. I have the VP guidebook without the GPX downloads. I was thinking I might do Parkamoor and Tilberthwaite and can't be bothered to plot it (crikey I may have to nav using the guidebook description!).

Has anyone got the GPX? Am I planning the right route for a long day on a FS?

That's just the basic tour of coniston route, I think. I have a version which starts/finishes at Grizedale VC rather than up at High Cross (breaks up the boring fire road slog along the top of Grizedale with a decent descent).

It's not a massively hard/long route - lots of fast tracks, so it shouldn't be too long a day.

Dunno if this link will work.

I know you are sorted now, but just for extra ref, when we went to the lakes I got gpx's form lakesmtb.co.uk

I'd add that the Vertebrate Graphics version is probably the most XC style route in the guide these days, certainly since the sanitisation of Parkamoor to Nibthwaite. If you want more descending thrills, you'd have to add a few more variations like the one on my gpx.

Ahhh, so should I be doing something completely different?

I still like it, but then, I'm a pervert who likes climbing as well as descending. There is one section (Torver to Coniston) which might have you questioning why you climbed all that way to do the flat bit of Walna Scar then whizz down a steep tarmac road. Again, there is a really good alternative to this, but I'm not sure I'd recommend it on August Bank Holiday weekend.

It depends how rough and rocky you like it, really.

TilberthwAite is pretty dull but pretty go through the gate on the left as you’re going through the farm. Shorter and steeper and gunner that round by littleangdale ford

Have you ridden that side recently? Haven't since last year, and I was hoping that a couple of winters would have started to return it to its former state, but it was still flat as a pancake after the 'improvement' works.

I used to work as a newspaper sub-editor. I've seen a lot worse. 🙂

Yeah, that fun descent with the lovely bedrock (and the tricky climb up to it) was all filled in and flattened a few years back. Shame
