Can you guys recommend some overshoes that wont fall apart after a few rides?
I understand that some of the kit gets used and abused, but lately all the clothing I have bought seems to be falling apart....
The problem I have is that some of the kit is quite expensive, but the quality doesnt seem to be there anymore.
I've some BBB ones, they are probably four years old and just starting to fall apart. The stitching on one of the understraps is coming undone and the zips are starting to get a bit hit and miss. I'd get another pair to replace them.
i've always had good longevity out of my Assos overshoes, probably on my 4th pair in about 30 years, the zip-pull came off one of them once, that's all i can remember going wrong, they've generally just worn out
worth hunting down a bargain, Assos have their own on-line discount store
Also interested, but with a 'reflective' caveat.
Proviz fits the bill but not sure about durability, glad to hear BBB are durable at least.
are you talking thick neoprene insulating type, or just one to keep the mud off.
I'm a fan of Belgian booties on the road, when it's not proper cold but is a bit crappy. Neoprene toewarmers as well if needs be, and at a few quid a pair, if I get a few rides before the soles get too ripped and they get binned, it's pennies per ride.
I liked the Gore windstoppers, but the zip pulls (not the zip) failed. They don't crash well, either. More recently I've been using Castelli Toe Things just to cover the toes, these were fine all last (mild) winter, but have BBB neoprene this year. I also ride in Sidi winter boots, that are warm but heavy, and really don't keep the water out!
I'd recommend BBBs too. I've got a pair that are years old, and the only damage they have on them is from when I walked 3 miles in MTB shoes in them following multiple punctures.
For road riding with road shoes they were brilliant. nice and warm too.
I've got some BBBs too - hydrophobic something or other so a thinner flexible material rather than neoprene.ย Theve done a couple of years of commuting and are showing signs of wear but that's only really where the cranks rub because my feet are wonky on the pedals.
My wife has had a pair of BBB ones for about 5 years and they've survived daily commutes happily. The zip pull came off them so I made her a new one out of gear cable and they've been great since.
Mt DHB fabric overshoes lasted really well. I'm not a fan of neoprene overshoes - I find they make my feet cold and clammy, which sort of defeats (!) the point of them. I use mtb pedals and winter boots for when it's really cold and wet.
