[#1283473]

After months of arguing with the above shop after a very poor job, getting nowhere with them or trading standards I thought I would post a warning to any potential customers.

So the story goes.....

I went into the shop to have 2 new gear cables and outers run. Put it in on the Friday night and was told I could collect the Monday night. Went in on the Monday, picked up the bike and Was told that 2 new inners and one outter to the rear had been run. When I got the bike home on closer inspection i found a number of problems.

The cable to the rear had been run too short. This meant there no slack for rear suspension pivot, resulting in terrible indexing because of cable pinch at the rear mech.

My rear rotor had been contaminated with oil amd 2 new Avid sintered pads ruined

They had not fitted any cable ends

Took it back the next day and they were not prepared to repair. I got new cable run at puffer only to be told by the square wheels guy that

They had not used any ferrules at either the mech or shifters.

They had used brake cable, not gear cable

This list IMO is not acceptable and and proves that they either do not have a clue, or they are just too lazy to do the job right. I know this is a bit of a moan but, just thought I would warn anyone that is thinking about getting anything done by them.

Raise a small claim. I know a lawyer!

I did think of the small claims approach but for the sake of 15 quid to do the job again and 20 quid for new pads is it worth taking the risk of losing and having lawyers fees. If this discourages just one person from spending money with them that's enough. They told me they have never had any complaints re their work. I'd say I'm just the first to know enough to notice the poor workmanship. I feel sorry fir all the people that buy or use them and have no knowledge.

Sounds like a very cr@p shop.

Might be worth learning how to do that sort of job yourself as it's pretty easy. I started working on my bikes because of experiences with a big shop tending to do shoddy work (put the bike in to get serviced and the gears worked worse when I got it back than they did pre-service). I've since found a smaller shop that's reliable and cheap for the jobs I can't (or don't like to do) myself.

I can do most things myself but not gears lol. I do need to learn but. Managed to fit and set up my first full groupset with a little help from a mate last week and it seems to be running well so that's progress in my book lol

That's what you get for getting a bike shop to change gear cable! 😛

Small claims court can be done DIY online for around £50 IIRC You don't need a lawyer. However without an independent witness / report on the condition of the bike you will have trouble proving your claim
