[#9957849]

I am in the market for a hard tail, which haven't had for years. I quite fancy a 29er and saw the Orange clockwork 129 but can't find reviews on it. Has anyone got one yet?

Thanks

Cool. So many questions? Sorry.

What are thoughts on it? Pros and cons.

How tall are you and what size did you go with?

Where/what sort of riding are doing with it?

Weight of the bike?

Thanks

1) it's less XC than the Solaris Mk2

2)6ft, medium

3)rooty woods & mud atm, likes steep both up and down. Shallow climbs don't suit the seat angle

4) a hair under 29lbs on the shop park scales, no idea if they are accurately balanced. It's a lot lighter than the ragley big wig with the same components (self build from frame)

Overall it's ok, not looking to sell it on after 3 months like I did the Cotic & Ragley

Nice bike rocket.

Can you possibly shed any light on rear tyre clearance?

Pics are with 29x2.4 loads of room. I've had a 27.5x3.0 bombolloni in the back so any 2.8 will fit

@scuttler the Bird looks nice shame it's a 29er

@rocketdog thanks for the information. Food for thought.

Bird is 27.5 but as you started the thread about the 129, presume you mean it’s a shame it’s not a 29er. Me I started on the idea of a 27.5 hardtail (Zero / 137) but now I wonder about 29... fantasy buying currently though.

I’ve got a Bird Aeris 145 and was looking for a more XC-oriented hardtail.

I wanted another Bird so the Zero TR was the top contender. Then I saw the Clockwork 137 S...and bought it.

The Bird is clearly better value for money but the geo of the 2018 Clockworks has been updated. Almost as importantly, I’ve wanted an Orange for over 25 years.

Finance finally swung it for me. I don’t *need* another bike (n+1, huh)? So probably would have just lusted after the Zero and carried on quite happily with my Aeris. But Bird don’t do finance and everywhere else does.

Reviews for the 137 S don’t exist but it does seem right up my street. It’s not exactly what you’re looking at but hopefully I can give you a bit of insight to the 2018 range once it turns up on Wednesday.

Also - I’m 6ft and went for the large. The Aeris is stretched and a medium Orange just felt too cramped for me.

Personal preference of course. 6ft being that bastard borderline height.

I bought one. XL seems a good fit for me at 6'4".

I've put a couple of pics on my Hardtail Choice thread.

Very pleased so far though haven't ridden it enough to give any detailed feedback. Dropper was a bit stiff at first but seems to be loosening up. Other than that the bike seems really well put together and looks great IMO.

137 here. 5’8” on a medium. I also have a slightly older Clockwork 29er, size medium. The 29er is lighter but more XC.

Just bought one today. Can't wait to test it out properly. 1400 in the LBS sale.

Thread resurrection!

Has anyone ridden one of these in an XL and how tall are you if you have and how was the fit?

Also - would this be any use for a bit of 'light' bike packing (1 or 2 night's out, maximum). Just not sure about the size of the triangle for frame bag compatibility.

Thanks.
