looking for a route planning tool thats nice and easy to use showing bike friendly trails trying to keep it legal witout using too many special trails any ideas or am i heading down the map shop

Are there any that snap to paths etc like they do with roads?

gmap-pedometer (it certainly has snap to for cycling/walking).

not the easiest site to use if you want to get GPX files out of it (ie manual plugin thing, cut/paste into an editor, then a bit of manual GPX file hacking if you have more than 1 route and don't want duplicate waypoint IDs).

The training route part if the Great North Run site is great and free to use, if you're happy with road based routes.
