Anyone know if there is one on the horizon? I like the idea of something similar to the new Scandal but in Ti. Been looking at the various Lynskey-built options, but can't get over the spendiness of them. I know there was something rumoured a year or so ago, but has this now been canned?
I own both (1st gen Scandium Scandal, vert drop out, and 1st gen Lyskey O-OTi29er).
Although it pains my wallet to say it, and it's not a direct like for like comparison as my Ti is 19.5" and the Scandal 21", but when Im brutally honest with myself, Id say the scandal rides "better" than the Ti. However, that "better" for me is generally on long rumply fast trails as opposed to big rocky nadgery stuff when the Ti is "better" but possibly only as a result of the extra standover.
The Ti is built as a superlight (c.18 lbs) Ti SS - its the bike I ride 95% of the time.

But just about to build the scandal up again as a rohloff'd, 100mm Reba (w 20mm axle) HT for long welsh days. More just so I have a geared, suspended bike to hand, not really because it's the best build for the Scandal which for me is probably still fully rigid SS. But I need a geared one in the shed and the Ti is lovely SS'd that it takes priority.
Scandal in a previous build. It was lying around as a frame for years.

So...Id seriously recommend grabbing a bargin Scandal first, esp as they're due to land soon, before committing to the Ti29, which might be a bit of a wait still.
Thanks Stoner. I know that what you suggest makes sense. I've got a last generation Scandal, which I'm enjoying. The problem is, I bought it as a test to see whether I preferred a 29er hardtail to my ti 26er. Having now discovered that I do, it needs to replace the 26er as I don't have room for both. As it sits in my hallway it will have to pass the walk-by aesthetic test (yes, I'm a tart), which the pink Scandal doesn't really do.
The geometry on decent 29ers doesn't seem to differ much between the Lynskey, Salsa and (albeit not ti) Niners and On-ones, so I guess I was just hoping a ti on-one would meet my requirements at a more sensible price.
Maybe the raw finish scandal can be more easily purty-fied than the pink one? Maybe keep an eye out for a 2nd hand one, as they're tough frames and probably would take a bead blast bringin it back to lovliness.
I have the same problem. I have two early Scandium 29er Scandals and I love them, but I also keep thinking about a nice ti 29er! Lots of money and maybe no better than the Scandals!
I also like the idea of the new raw Scandal frame!
Let see! 😕
I've just opened my bank statement, which has suddenly made the Scandal all the more appealing. Also toying with the Cotic Solaris, which is prettier but more expensive and probably another pound or so heavier.
I really do need to get over the whole pretty/bling bike thing. It makes me feel shallow and dirty.
I love my ti29er and having ridden wife's scandal far prefer the ti frame.
The new scandal looks great, but seems quite a bit heavier than last version. And why would you put rack mounts on a race frame? I thought that's what the steel frame was for?
Shame the new ti frames didn't appear - definitely a gap in the market.
Also be interesting to see how the new On-one frame compare to all the other stuff now coming out - their geo is quite 'old school' now - most frames have slightly slacker ha with shorter chainstays.
Because some folk will use it for stuff in addition to/other than racing.Clink - Member

Suppose the carbon is the new race frame...
Rutland are doing the Lightspeed obed for £999. Not sure how 'old school' the geo is though
Clink,
I have two 16" Scandals that were advertised on the On One web site as weighing around 3.5lbs. The new Scandal is also advertised as weighing 3.5lbs? Is or do you think that 3.5lb is too heavy, surely just an approx or average? The two frames I have also weigh different to each other. One at 3.14lb and the other at 3.54, sad I know! 😉
Niners are 5mm shorter chain stay, but a degree steeper seat angle than on-one.
Carbon lurcher is trail bike.
Why dont you just strip the pink and have whatever colour you want?
..or get in touch with Picto off the forum who still has an obed he's been trying to shift as he's over framed at the mo- catch him on a good day and you may get a deal
Just finished the Scandal build Id been planning for a while.
Quite pleased with it. Clean enough build, not too hefty. Need to sort out some stick on cable guides for the rohloff cables down the downtube, and have to trim the front brake hose but need to get some olives/inserts for new SLX - I only have them for my old XTR. Need to get some spare SLX pads too.
Perhaps I might now be at peace with my bikes and I;ll stop trying new builds every couple of months! 😉 Not v likely...

Stoner, what do think of the Jones fork?
love them. The frame rides so much better with the lower head tube (I have been known to ride this frame with 120mm rebas - something like 530mm a-c 😯 ), and although on paper Im running the forks at the equivalent of 455mm a-c (the frame I guess is designed around a more usual 465-470mm) it would appear that with the longer than usual (55mm) offset that its surprisingly stable, predictable and yet manoeuvrable. I rode the Real Ale Wobble with no problems in that build. They are also extraordinarily light - lighter than my On-One carbon forks.
Damn, was hoping you'd say they were rubbish, will have to try my Hummingbird forks on mine, same geometry just quite a bit heavier...
5mm shorter chainstays on the niner. That will be why it rides so well. Still want an OO ti29er though.

You mean it's on their website. That doesn't mean they actually have any!
Still want an OO ti29er though.
Dont worry Shaun, I will let you look at mine when ever you want 😀

Can you send pics of mine - perhaps make into a poster?!? 😀
I've got a very dirty 19.5" slotty scandal sat in front of me now.Hope headset and on one carbon forks.
A little scruffy and some oik has cut off the mech hanger and cable stops but in fine fettle otherwise.
Built my old unit back up whilst I ponder about buying a Yelli Screamer 😀
Open to offers.............maybe.
got an original proto scandal frame slot drop out raw finish slacker seat angle than usual rides like a mini jones diamond frame (especially when it had some funny truss things on that appear to have been fitted to another on-one 29er come on brant make a truss fork!) knocking about lookin lonely if anyone may be interested as well
Thanks chainslapp. may have to schwaffle it next time you come out and you are not looking.
Thanks for the thought clink.
If you keep sheeding bikes our gang will all be riding your ex bikes.
Taz if you are reading - large hoop arrived. When do you want it?
oooo a chance to play with your rim Mr R, I'll pop by tuesday after our night ride and collect all the bits. I may have a goldtec hub to stans ztr 29er front wheel if you want it as well seeing as I've got more wheels than bikes at the moment
Sounds like a plan. Let me know re goldtec and i will sort out some silver to cross your palm with.
Working in Stafford Tuesday so will be able to get out nice and early.
Shall I get spokes or shall I let you visit the goldtec boys for me? Done the calculating thing. All very exciting.
Blimey O'Reilly Chainslapp!
You remembered how to ride a bike!
I did, you never forget you know, its just like riding a bike. 😳
It was good to drag mr slapp out and a jolly good time was had by all!
Good to here!
We were out at 7 this morning and still picking the dirt out of our eyes! 😯
That does look nice Shaun. Quite envious. Thank god it is too big for me.
Those tyres look a tad dangerous though matey. Is it safe to let them get wet?
A big thanks to Pop and Tazzy for riding an easy route so I could attend Saturdays ride. Thoroughly enjoyed the company, the banter and really good to get out and it made me realise what I was missing.
tk46hal, cant you sleep any more or do you do that only on week days??
Hey up Picto, yes shortly after taking the photo both tyres exploded causing the air bag in my camelback to also go off. A mix of jelly babies energy drink and inner tubes were all over the utility room.
And the only reason I washed it was Tazzy had a ride on it and had a quick schwaffle on the frame.
Look forward to seeing you next Saturday?
Yup, probably on the geared Scandal though. Be good to see you too.
glad you had fun mr slapp! See I'm not always an evil hill climbing machine, sometimes I can bimble like a good 'un 😀
anyway you had fun on my jeff so it's only fair I interfered with you boingy frontage
Personal opinion only, but... Love my (Lynskey) Ti456 - best bike ever - also love my Scandal, so I was really keen to "combine" the two and get an On-One ti29er. Gave up waiting after a year or so of promises and bought a Lynskey Ridgeline 29er, which was only a couple of hundred quid or so more than the mythical On-One on special from CRC. Geom looked very similar (same chainstay length, 10mm shorter top tube, 1 degree slacker HA), and love the Lynskey build/ride quality on the Ti456. Deal done... now I've just bought another Scandal and the Lynskey's being sold 'cause I prefer the geom/ride of the Scandal. Reckon it might be down to the BB on the Scandal being about an 1" higher (always thought a lower one would be better, but there you go, the figures don't mean everything).
I'd probably still be keen to by a Ti Scandal, if they ever materialise, although pretty pissed off with On-One over the recent faffing with the new Scandal (no/wrong info, delayed delivery etc.)
Off to ride my bikes 😀
