Thinking about a slot dropout frame but to run with gears and discs. Anyone got this set-up?

Main question is how much of a pain is getting the back wheel in and out with a rear mech and disc calliper in place, or does that work out OK?

Should I really get a vert dropout one, or is the slot liveable with?

I'm running a slot dropout scandal with gears at the moment. It's not a complete nightmare, but it's definitely more hassle than a vertical dropout frame. If I was going to run gears all the time I'd definitely go for vertical dropouts.

dont count on being able to run the hub right forward in the slot, as the disk mounts do go that far for some reason!
it would make sense for them to, so you can just throw the wheel in, but you cant, so tough.

Having said that, ive got a chain tug in there, and have no problems.

if your only going to use gears, you would buy a vertical, but im guessing your toying with SS and or Hub gear options, in which case, go for it.

only minor additional hastle.

also, the slotty has down tube cable and hose routing, and its a BB guide style cable guide.
up to you whether thats a good thing or not, ive got mine as a road bike, so its good i think.
if it was for off road, i would want full outers.

I prefer under BB cable routing for all bikes.

Only had a few wheel changes on my Pomp but it's not too bad, I'd go for it, though if I had to take the wheel off for a car every ride I might not.

I agree with Al above that if I had to remove the rear wheel every time I transported the bike, then I would go for a vertical drop out frame, but if you don't the versatility of being able to run SS or geared is good.

Hmmm, thanks all. Sort of confirming what I thought - hassle but not a complete 'mare. Back wheel would only really come out for fixing flats and maintenance. Vertical dropouts would be better, though ultimately it depends what comes along and how much cheapness...

Run my slidey 2nd gen 1x9 sometimes. No problems. I usually split the chain before swapping back to SS wheel anyway, but to set up I just push wheel forward till rotor is in position & tighten. Only slightly more hassle than vertical drop. Takes me 5 mins to convert SS to 1x9.

Why not get an Alfine? On special from On-One at the moment.

Had a Scandal and it was PANTS !
When tightening the chaintug (steel), you could feel it screwing through the alu dropout - total rubbish.

Might be better on a steel frame but what a faff !
Never again, gone EBB and no worries with off centre wheels, out of line calipers / chainlines, rubbing tyres on front mechs, the list is endless of problems that can arise with such a frame dropout.

Yuk !

Ran a slot drop inbred with gears for a couple of years with no hassle at all. Never needed a chain tug and removing/replacing the wheel was no great effort, although slightly more fiddly than normal. There's a knack to it but once you've done it a few times it's easy ( helps if you put the gears into granny ring and smallest sprocket to give you some more slack)

You only nip it up to the drop out, once you feel resistance that's all you need.

I have a slot scandal and I love the versatility of ss or gears, yes it's a tad more faff when running as a ss to centre the wheel but it's easy to work out how to do it and running it as a geared bike is no different to running one with vert drop outs.

Zoolander;

Are the Hope qr's any better than they used to be? Just looking for a new (non creaky) seat clamp to replace my old hope one but noticed the design has changed.
