@cromolyolly it's either the frames or the thru-axle, my order was for only a large/orange frame and included thru axle. Nothing's arrived yet, still awaiting stock on their website. But clearly they've got (at least some of) those parts ready to go if they're sending out bikes

Edit to add: make of this what you will - website says:

@drfrankenbike

Im not sure the black ones ever showed as in stock. I guess it's all part of the on one experience! That and upside down stickers. I missed out - I hhummed and ha-ed and waited too long so the size and colour was sold out at the end of the preorder discount. They were then due in mid December. Then there were back a couple of days later. I suspect they prioritised full builds over frame only so you might have run into a popular size and colour for full builds. Can't blame them really for taking the extra profit but it's still annoying for you. Hope you get in soon. Pics!

^ I did the same. I went to order a size small the night the pre order discount was due to end but all sizes and colours were showing out of stock. It serves me right for being indecisive, but it did make me wonder if they pulled all the stock when they discovered the issue with the thru axles.

I did order mine a bit late and in a large orange too so I'll have to learn to be patient.

Did you check back the next day or two after?

I did. The size small was showing out of stock up until this weekend in all colours.

I used the stock alert email notification just in case they came back in, and received an email over the weekend. Trouble is I know I could have had one at the pre order price, so can't bring myself to pay full price for one now.

Thats slightly less annoying, then but still

I can't bring myself to pay full price either. It's PX though, so I'm sure something similar will pop up pre or post Xmas. Plus I'm guessing there'll be a few popping up 2nd hand when people have had a chance to try them out and decide they aren't quite right for them.

Glad I'm not the only one still waiting on a frame (large/grey - now showing Out of Stock :/ ). PX chat on Friday told me "some" axles had arrived, so he was going to allocate the stock and release my order to be shipped... heard nothing else yet. Sounds like full builds are taking priority.

Anyone else actually got hold of one of these yet? Bike or frame? Feels like it might be a Christmas present to myself at this point.

I asked about the black ones too: Not expected until 'at least February'.

I ordered mine on 10th Oct at 2PM, would've thought I ought to be pretty near the front of the queue.

Live chat told me:

we weren't happy with some of the axles delivered with the frames so we're having replacements made by a different supplier. These will be in Friday and we'll get the frames dispatched Monday latest.

On a whim I bought some superstar torque caps. They appear (in my post work drinks haze) to fit like a charm. More to follow this weekend hopefully...

First impressions after a quick ride around the park at the weekend:

1) my sealant has gone off in the bottle, slow puncture after setting up tubeless - nothing to do with the bike

2) SX gears seem pretty crap compared to the XT on my other bike.
I was prepared for slightly worse performance, but these seem to be decidedly ponderous - sometimes taking a couple of seconds to shift, sometimes not at all. This might be a setup issue won't know until I get a chance to get it up on the stand and have some fettling time.

3) seems like there isn't much clearance on the non-drive side for anything bigger than a 2.4 and still allow room for mud.

4) I'm a bit peed off on pricing. When I bought mine you had to pay extra for the Rockshox fork so I could buy exactly the same spec today for the same price I paid in the pre-order.

There's a long way between the two, x0 and xtr being roughly on par, xt is about X1 in 11 speed there's no Eagle equivalent. Gx is about slx, nx about deore and sx somewhere below that. So it's a bit like trying to compare altus or something and xt.

Yeah, I know 🙁

Fair point. I'll see if I can make them better on the stand.

If not will invest in some new shimano 12 speed stuff and see if it works with a SRAM cassette.

Otherwise it will be back down to 11 speed as I don't think I'll be able to get microspline on those wheels.

I'm led to believe the mech and shifter are interchangeable, the cassette certainly is.

I'm also awaiting the arrival of a large, grey Big Dog frame. What's the issue with these thru-axles?

At this point, supposedly its just processing time but apparently the original batch failed qa. Given some of the problems with London Road frames that made it out of the door I'm going to guess failing px's QA means they actually burst into a ball of firey death on contact with air.

I think they were too short... Not sure even PX would send out a bike which didn't do up 🙂 Maybe I give them too much credit...

hmmm mine was destined for S.Wales, left Birmingham went to Glasgow(?), now it's been delayed... Nightmarish thoughts of damaged boxes and missing parts are now circling my mind.

Well packaged but a word of caution, the mech hanger is in a small bag taped to the frame protection but the bag wasn't sealed so spent a few minutes chasing the bolt and hanger around the workshop

Xl in theory, though I did think "hmmmm this looks small" when I unboxed it.

I'll throw a tape over it later when I'm not supposed to be doing something else

Just back from Inners shuttle day and my Large Orange frame is here. Thanks for tip on mech hanger - thought it was missing but it is under brown packing tape securing foam frame protection. This will be my first steel bike since 1989 (Saracen Tufftrax) and my first 29r so looking forward to trying this.

Bah..... XL looks like a farmer's gate built up. No dropped top tube.

Missed a trick their Brant what with the modern geometry on the rest of the bike.

So far I have had 2 through axles delivered(one last week and one today) but no frame despite assurances from planet X. This impulse buy is turning into a real shlep.

One if the reasons I dithered. You always think you are getting a bargain then it goes cheaper.

Well I was really pleased with mine. All done, quick shakedown, went to bleed rear brake and just blew my lever up. Now very cross.

I received my Big Dog L phospate frame today... what a cool look 🙂
BUT: The axle is too short! It says length 171,5 mm on it and I can't thread it in with a 148 Wheel mounted. What about your axles - are they longer?

EDIT: I went into the chat... I really got one of the old wrong axles. A new one will be sent out 🙂

Mine got delivered today. The box was open at both ends, but I haven't had a chance to take a look properly. The frames wrapped in a reasonable amount of bubble wrap and masking tape though.

Fingers crossed it's all there.

Mine got delivered today too, but without a hanger and with wrong (short) axle. After 3-4 weeks :-/

@lukasj - double check the brown parcel tape on the frame protection foam - the hangers well embedded under some of that brown tape - well mine was when I thought I didn't have one in the box.

Mines here, built it on Sunday, rode it on Monday for an icy commute. It's excellent; a wee bit of rear compliance (not much mind..), quick, handles well on the easy trails so far and fits exactly as I'd hoped. No issues at all, hanger & correct axle supplied, boxed thoroughly, packed carefully.
2x10 works with a 38/26 boost chainset and forward pull front mech. I've kept the front low for xc/packing/commuting duties with a 100mm fork.
Another commute ride tomorrow to continue the developing relationship. Am happy.

Are you guys getting your frames chased/faced/reamed etc. or not bothering? If I can get away without any additional prep in a shop I could have mine built tonight

I did the BB on mine. Threads were fine but the faces were a bit out and material came off to even them out
