Hey. Does anyone know a good resource for building up a nutrition plan? I struggle to eat regularly and the right stuff and as a result am suffering from lack of energy and general motivation. Most of the time I can't stomach breakfast - and I think this is where my general daily problem comes from. I don't tend to eat anything till about 11am, which is normally a chicken breast/salad/granary bap. Then I don't eat anything till about 6pm which is a normal meal consisting of a lean meat and veg / pasta / rice.

I commute about 7 miles each way to work at a decent pace (around 18-23mph) - so I think I should be eating more than I am. Oddly I'm around 12.5st and 5'11" so not stupidly underweight. However I'd really like to start eating better to get more out of my riding at weekends.

Sounds like you're not eating much fat. Your body needs fat. It also sounds like you're not getting much variety. Buy a cookbook and work your way through it. Also if you feel you're lacking in energy you probably need to eat more.

Force yourself to eat breakfast for a bit and see if you get used to it.

Google balanced diet. You shouldn't need a specialist plan just some protein (from meat, fish, etc) some carbs (rice, pasta, potatoes) and plenty of veg.

Failing that spend a shit load on protein shakes, they seem to be all the rage still.

I think the consensus advice is to drink sugary drinks ๐Ÿ˜€

Just eat more if you really lack energy - do you lack energy or morivation?

FWIW I almost never eat breakfast some folk just dont like it

Healthy low fat food 3 x per day or balance over the day of you are a grazer. Focus on meat as protiens with good portion of fruit & veg, with some grains. Followed by Chocolate milk after a ride.

Just don't put anything in your mouth that doesn't grow as an animal/fruit/plant. Except beer of course.

Try one soft boiled egg (3 minutes from boiling) for breakfast with one slice of toast cut into soldiers. Alternatively scrambled egg on toast. See how you get on with that on one day.

Porridge is also good and quick and easy to make but not to everyone's taste. I have it with a few raisins to add more taste.

Those add water porridge pots are great and come in different flavours. I'm never hungry first thing in the morning. If I ride into work (about 10 miles) I'll ride without breakfast and have a porridge pot around 9:30 / 10 when I start to feel hungry. Sets me up for the day really with only a light lunch required.

Try drinking a pint if olive oil for breakfast. It worked for me. If you can't stomach olive oil try melted butter.

sounds like your eating too much [insert food group] and not enough [insert food group], you should do what I do and eat more [insert food group] and less [insert food group], also you should eat [more/less] often and [bigger/smaller] portions.

If your weight is steady, it sounds like the calorie in vs calorie out is balanced. Unless you're looking to increase calories out, then what you're eating sounds okay. Don't get hung up about breakfast. The idea of it being the most important meal of the day doesn't come from a peer reviewed study, it's a tag line for Kelloggs.

It could be an intollerance to something. Try dropping the bread for a week (try a salad instead of a sandwich) and see if that makes a difference.

Failing that, keep a diary of what and when you eat and when Jou feel you're lacking energy and take it to a professional.

Good luck.

I think you need the intermittent fasting paleo diet. It's something like;

dont eat anything till about 11am, which will normally be a chicken breast/salad/granary bap. Then don't eat anything till about 6pm which is a normal meal consisting of a lean meat and veg / pasta / rice.

I think...

Try reading "in defence of food", think its by someone pollan. If you fancy a more digestible version of it, he's done one called something like "the rules".

Either of these two books will give you more understanding, and useful wisdom, than any amount of STW experts, nutritionists, dietitians, marketers......
