Numb lip after bike crash

10 days ago I had a crash on the road bike, went over the bars and landed on the ground on my chin (as well as other bits).

It's healing ok it seems but my lower lip is sometimes a bit numb, like I've been to the dentist. Minor injuries and the GP don't seem concerned so thought I'd ask here so I can worry myself.

There were a couple of deep cuts on the outside and a hole on the inside where my tooth had gone in. The doctor said it was too small to require stitches.

The internet says it's fairly normal but should I be chasing my GP harder?

Don't chase them too hard, you might fall over....

The good news is that you have that completely right... ๐Ÿ˜‰

Suspect you've given it a serious knock and it is taking time to heel...

It's almost certainly due to bruising around the nerve, interfering with sensation. It should get better as the bruising resolves and everything heals, but may take a few months to do so.

I'd only be concerned if there was aย complete loss of sensation, a feeling that your teeth don't come together properly (malocclusion) or evidence of facial drooping from muscle weakness.

I am not your GP, nor have I examined you.

Thanks all.

The GP, via the cumbersome PATCHS system, agrees with you.
