Ahem, that's the Surrey Hills you're referring to there, not the North Downs.

Squeezed in a cheeky session around Box Hill / Mickleham earlier. ย ''Tis wet, leafy and sketchy. ย I imagine much of the SH will be similar other than the likes of Yog Pots etc that bog out more quickly.

Certainly nowt to stop anyone riding.

Just back from a ride on Holmbury and Pitch. A bit damp and drizzly with a few puddles and bits of mud here and there + nice greasy roots to keep things "interesting".....good fun.

The North Down are chalk and flint and tend to be muddier and more slippery than the Surrey Hills which are greensands and which drain and dry better

Actually, North Downs is part of the Surrey Hills 😏 (SH stretches from Dorking down to Hindhead). What most people think of as Surrey Hills for MTB though is Peaslake area and Leith which is the Greensand Ridge. Key thing is different soils. Greensand is more sandy, North Downs is chalk and best avoided when wet. Though conditions aren't too bad either side at the moment. Wet leaves hiding slippery roots are the main problem.

Was at Leith Hill and Redlands on Sunday. Not very muddy, yet.
