..........I'm loving it!

I picked up a near mint carbon 456 back in October, beefed it up a bit (short stem, 1x10, wider tyres) and I'm loving taking out it for local night rides.

I'm just trying to keep fit over winter so I'm doing the same loop each week but I'm loving it, it's so much fun to ride and takes next to no time to clean, happy days!

I picked up a cheap light from eBay for £23 and so far it's been faultless.

It took a while building up my confidence as I ride solo but my total time is dropping each ride, so much so that on every Strava segment tonight I picked up PBs or 2015 KOMs.

So, how often do other people night ride?

Think I need to increase to twice a week minimum, I tend to ride the full suss at the weekend but getting hooked riding the HT at night, might step it up a gear next week.

Once a week in the darker months. More in the summer.

Now I've moved house. Only 2 or 3 times a week now. Used to be daily, a great commute home 95% off road too.

Once or twice a week, depending how I feel and weather. Group ride stuff I do which is more of a constant and non stop-ish pace which is good for a fitness ride and to keep going on a cold night. Fun, though following a group in the dark I get disoriented. I recognise the trails but lose track of where I am. Occasionally I do a solo night ride and know where I'm going mostly, but even then things look a bit different in the dark.

And night riding means I don't cut down on rides just because it's darker in the winter.

Thats what I love about night riding, everything is different, the trails your are used too are transformed and your sense of awareness is hightened.

I love the silence, and the cracking of twigs under your wheel as you blast through the woods in darkness, also an added bonus if you get to see things you wouldn't normally see in the daylight.

Good spot seeing a Tawny Owl, I can't remember the last time I had that pleasure.

It's funny when you ride through car parks and popular dogging spots. The last thing doggers expect is to be illuminated by a nice bright LED.

Usually 5 times a week. I work odd hours so most of the time I go for an extended 1-2 hour ride after work at 9pm. I always find people's reactions in the forest funny. They mostly behave like rabbits trapped in car head lights standing there stock still. I think their brains go into overload as they assume such a bright light must come from some sort of motorised vehicle but they can't hear an engine! I often see raccoons too in the warmer months which have startd to colonise Germany after escaping from captivity.

I used to love night rides, now it's just a ride with some lights on.

OP- I'd get a second light if you don't have one- it gets dark quick if your only one packs in!

Depends what you mean by 'night riding' - I ride 20 miles 6 to 10 times a week in the dark so not sure if that counts.

It's just riding in the dark, I don't love it anymore than daylight riding.

Once a week, and will be out tonight - based on the weather probably at nearby Glentress.

I ride, mainly in the evenings due to work and family. I live in the UK. Therefore to ride year-round, I ride at night. Never think of it as "night-riding though"

Get the best lights you can financially justify and its the same as riding at daytime, but with less people. And the added element if you crash and can't get up, there'll be no-one along for at least 8 hours. 🙂

Was up on the moors in the snow and ice until midnight yesterday. Great fun. 🙂

I do it, out of necessity, but I'd rather be daylight riding!

I'm the same, its just riding in the dark, I don't gush over it, I'd much rather ride with the sun on my back.

Twice a week for me. I prefer it to riding in the daylight, as there's generally nobody about.

For solitude I love road riding really late, like 1am. Very peaceful.. only you and the hum of the road. One of my most memorable rides ever was across the North Downs around midnight ish on a bright moonlit night. My lights packed up half way round but there were no cars at all so I just turned them off and rode by moonlight.
