[#8463435]

Hello, I'm looking for suggestions of nice, lightish SS road bikes or CX bikes.

Currently commute on a Genesis Day 1 which is OK but a bit boring/heavy.

Not fussed about frame material or brake type.

Cheers

Those All City bikes look lovely in the flesh, but I picked up one of the Nature Boy discs, well I tried anyway. It was on my list of bikes I would like a go on, but it is not cheap and needs a diet more than I do

The premium steel and carbon forks will help though

I've got last year's bright pink Charge Plug.

It was £350 in the sale, £500 normally.

It's already pretty light feeling and a really fun ride, big bouncy 40c tyres but quite a racy position.

The best thing about it is just how much faster it would feel with, e.g. 28c conti GP4000s (probably saving 300g per wheel...) not to mention new wheels (stock wheels are super basic).

The new versions appear to be disc only which is a shame, heavier and more expensive, the stock cantis on mine are great with a bit of tweaking and some posh Swisstop pads.

See if you can find a 2016 version cheap, don't think you'll regret it 8)

Want light! Go custom. You'll need some handbuilt wheels, nicer carbon parts and a carbon fork. My Kona Paddy Wagon has all of these and is low grade steel and still sub nine kilos.

I'm planning something a bit nicer, but still steel possibly 953, with an even lighter carbon fork. There are no carbon SS options - I have a Dolan Seta for track, but the geometry is too steep for the road (and no rear brake bridge).

Off th peg, a Langster is light but the wheels are not. Teen 1 has one with my old Kona forks after he broke his. Wheels are my old Kona ones after he broke those too!

Another option that I'm considering is a lighter wheelset but as the stock wheels are nutted types I'm not sure what would fit.

What wheels did you upgrade the Plug to 13thfloormonk?

I like the look of the State cycles Thunderbird, but not ridden one to know if they are any good.

Asylum here

Well before paint job/mark up etc 😀

Built one up with eccentric bb it was ace ..

Ran it 3 years before selling on as I stopped racing and needed more clearance ..

Speeder were great to deal with

I upgraded my wheels to Miche Primato low flange hubs, Sapim race spokes and mavic Open pro rims. Built by Harry Rowland. Still wheelnut axles and 1800g, but a saving of half a kilo on stock wheels and tyres. Probably more!

This is a friend of mine's Geekhouse Mudville. Nice and light.

What is that Raleigh?

I was looking for a singlespeed cX with a beltdrive, there aren't many about.
Seems Norco did on in about 2012 but it never made it to the UK
