yes, funny innit ? I have to admit that the Altura is rather good, and the fantastic scenery helps too. I failed to persuade the others to make an assault on the top of Grisedale Pike, though the top of the south loop took us to 500m which is over half way up ๐Ÿ™

worth a visit from down here ?

I'd still far rather have done a tour of Skiddaw or the Borrowdale Bash, particularly on such a lovely day, though had we done Grisedale Pike too that would have tipped the balance ๐Ÿ™‚

what camera?

Handheld Nikon D300 with 18-200mm VR Nikkor - not that it matters. The panorama is a composite of about 7 frames

Tom - I went up that way and down into Glenridding. It's certainly ridable coming towards Thirlmere; maybe a couple of points you'd have to carry half way down and it's pretty steep near the end (like Jenkins Hill on Skiddaw but less 'man made'). The difficulty would be where parts of the track are eroded into those nasty little channels with the high sides that catch your pedals.

I'm going to carry up from the Kings Arms sometime over the next month and then maybe come down Sticks Pass - see which is the best ascent / descent of the two. I'll let you know !

(Apologies for the highjack Simon :-)).

Apologies for the highjack Simon

no probs, I'd wondered what your route was ๐Ÿ™‚

I've been looking at your photo and trying to make out if I can actually see Whinlatter on the right somewhere. I have a feeling it's a bit more north...

I reckon Bleaberry Fell and Dodd Crag are mostly in the way - but that could be Lords Seat way in the distance on the right perhaps. I was busy panting and wondering why I'd thought a push and carry with a hangover was a good idea at the time I took the picture ๐Ÿ˜ณ

Did they open the top of the south loop just for the 'trotters?
Most locals have been understanding and abided by the requests not to ride the top section.
Unless it's now open to all again??

You'd have to be able to see through Cat Bells and Causey Pike!

Sorry sfb, I thought it was against the rules to be civil to you??

ohh, not sure if i do.

Just before a left turn, then over rocks between two very close trees and a short rocky shoot down onto a turning area at the start of some fireroad.

I think.

p.s. big enough? ๐Ÿ˜‰

cannon G7, bit blurred as i took in a hurry.
The tip about taking the originals vertically was a good tip thanks.

I think the close bit is in the top left of the photo where the two trees overlap.
But it's not as rocky as i remember.. โ“
