Fitted a new KMC EL 11 speed chain to my summer road bike this morning, not bad going for a nearly 3.5 year old bike, but probs about 4000 miles. Anyway, seeing as it is a mainly good weather use bike, Pedros Ice Wax is the lube that I normally use, with a degrease and reapplication every few weeks if being used a few times a week.
Is current thinking still ride out the box with the factory lube until it gets a bit gunked up, then degrease, or any advantage in degreasing and applying the ice wax before first ride ? I’ve always adopted the former..
