[Closed] New Hope Hoops making a "tinging " sound

[#1911611]

Just fit a front Hope Hoop with a Stan Crest rim. When i fitted the tyre (tubless) and did the Stans wheel dance the spokes we're making a Tinging noise. I've now fitted the wheel to the bike and when test rode around the garden as i turned the wheel made exactly the same sound on each turn.
the spokes on one side make a slighty low sound when flicked with my finger nail than the other.
Is it safe to ride?
Is it just the wheel bedding in ?
Opinions please.

Yep, spokes settling in.

Check them in a couple of weeks once everything has settled down.

Spokes shouldn't need bedding in after it's been built - they're supposed to be tensioned when building

spokes sligthly twisted from build when tensioned up which is normal/usual- who built it? moan at them they should have got this out before giving to you.
Lie wheel down on skewer/hub and put gentle ish pressure on rim at opposite sides and rotate + repetill it stops.Tension should be largely unaffected by this as slight loosing effect only.
Poor wheel build /attention to detailIMHO.

Yep thats the theory, but IME the noise he's hearing is them bedding in (properly) and they'll stop doing it after a ride or two. Though mine have never need retentioning due to this.

I'd go along with what ZIppy mentions.

My hopes went through the same phase for a ride or two and seem to be all good so far.

Should`nt keep bedding in for a ride or two! When wheel is built spoke tension, twisting, should have been relieved by stressing rim all way around, eg by putting on floor and pushing down on rim; this gives spokes a chance to bed in and unwind any tension or twisting. IME any wheel pinging has only lasted a few wheel turns before stopping. I have had 2 pairs of Hope Hoops, 1 MTB and 1 road 700c; neitehr pinged at all on first ride or thereafter.

Only wheel recently that I've had that "tinkled" was a 700c from Ribble, needed a retrue after first weeks use.

Junkyard,

they are factory hope hoops with Crest rims from Winstanleys.

Right so i need to remove the wheel , rest it on its 20mm adapters and gently apply pressure to the rim and slowly work my way round the rim. Am i correct.

I have got these wheels on my other bike and haven't had this issue. So just wanted to check i wasn't going to meet the Grim Reaper on my next ride.

Has it got black spokes? If so then there maybe flex in teh spokes and the painted spokes can rub causing a pinging sound?
