Been running Xt Ht2's since they came out, the original XT BB lastest about 18months, then I got a RF diaboolous bracket, managed a year out of that one.
THen I got a superstar componants one, I got ONE ride out of that (and to shops a few times) and it seized up! despite the fact I store my bikes indoors (mostly for security & insurance purposes), next time I got it out, she came out of car, rode around carpark, with BB cup firmly attached to the shaft it did a DAMN QUICK job of stripping the threads out of my frame. So not only was a 1ride old BB dead, but it killed my frame aswell, thanks much mr superstar!
So, after that, I saved up enough to buy another frame. Then stuck my good old trusty RF Signiture Ti ISIS back into it, and thats done fine for about a year now, but the cranks live on my SS, and I want to run both bikes again.
So, I'm after another HT2 BB, suitable for XT HT2 cranks or 2004/5 vintage.
Should I just get the normal shimano XT HT BB For £25 new, or is there some other wonder product out there worth having?

Problem solved.
hope ceramic... as an alternative to CK
mmm, too much £££ I fear.
I need a new back end, new drivetrain, and probably another fork. As i said, have been off the bike for 6months, and it needs an overhaul 🙁
budget for BB is around the £30 mark, and I would expect one to last at least a year and 2,000 miles, to me, if a product can't last that long, esp when mainted & stored under brilliant conditions, it goes back to the shop :/
Just stick with Shimano for that budget then.
Send your cups to betd and get new bearings installed for £25. I made the mistake of buying a superstar bb too.

cheers guys!
if i get 18months out of another XT for £25 I'll be happy enough. The frames were both faced when I got them, and I use proper torque wrench of snap-on variety.
haven't got any useful cups to send to betd, the superstar cups, one is stripped out, the other is now rotton into my old (now dead) frame, as its been sat in teh corner of the garage (dead parts corner) for about a year, shame, as it looked nice and only had 20-30miles on it 🙁
whats the actual difference between the Deore & XT units? bearings of a different quality or is it just the material the cups are made from?
No idea what the difference is.
They seem to last just as long though.
having taken both apart, the only difference i can see is the XT has slightly different outer plastic seals. That's all.
you get what you pay for!
had a race face lasted 1500 miles or so. on a hope one now its still only a few weeks old so i cant really comment on that altho its still ok after 2 weekend xc riding, and 9 days comuting. but i know that my lbs can replace the bearings. plus thay have plastic guard to keep most of the muck out.
I've gone through a number of truvativ bottom brackets and had to replace the bearings in a pair of Hope BBs within a year of fitting. Now got a Chris King (~80 quid delivered from Aspire Velotech). Will be sticking with the King as it's excellent and it's compatible with more cranksets - the Hope don't fit FSA cranksets, somehow, but the Chris King does.
Also the Chris King BBs are regreaseable very easily with the tool and look like they'll last forever.
