A long time ago I had a set of Hope Minis and as I ride xc thought these would be okay but I found them very underpowered so sold them and bought a set of M4 (4 pot type). These were great until recently and I'm thinking as they're old and technology has moved on should I replace them? The new Hope Tech x2 brakes apparently are very powerful but that was what I was told about the Hope Minis which just weren't so should I give them a go or go for the latest M4s? Should I try a different brand altogether? If so, what do you kind folk recommend?
Many thanks as always
Shimano XT or XTR (or SLX? Only used the first two myself). XT and SLX have the new servowave levers for more power. I'm fine with my XTR levers and one finger, TBH.
Easy setup, easy pad changes, good power, easy to get spare hose and connectors, IME.
I switched from Hope to magura loiuse bat on both my bikes.
Simple to set up and use, good control, stop as powerful as anything I've every tried.
On the heckler I have 205mm f and 180 r disks, holy ****, it's like throwing an anchor off the back when u pull them, net result, u ride faster.
Another vote for Maguras here. I've had a set of Louises with 180 and 160 mm disks on my bike for almost two years, bloody brilliant. I've had experience of almost every other make of brake and Maguras are by far the best IMHO.
sounds like you just need to brake less. hope tech x2 are pretty powerful but so are the magura. magura are super easy to bleed now. do you like the brits or the gerrys?
These were great until recently and I'm thinking as they're old and technology has moved on should I replace them?
So are these no longer great or do you just fancy some new brakes? 😉
grumm - they starting to give me grief and they always were a faff to set up. Maybe I'm just wondering if there is a better brake for me. If I have confidence in my brakes then my riding improves no end, I go a lot faster with better brakes - sounds weird huh?
