[#2478645]

so new chain arrived in the post, appears to be quite sticky... am i correct in thinking this is some kinda factory lube? or should i be cleaning the postman's babyjuice off my new chain!?

(seriously though, should i put additional lube on this before riding with it?)

i thank you all in advance 😀

it's factory grease. if the weather was dry I'd say clean it and put dry lube on, as it's uk in the winter, leave it and lube it when you next clean it

I take it off - it's too thick not to get full of shite. others (including sheldon rip) think it's the best lube going.

HTH 😉

I'd never de-grease a new chain, just seems a waste.

its not that thick, not visible or coloured, but noticeably sticky to touch... think testing it out and hitting the mud tomorrow night is the way forward, can always clean and re-lube before a ride on sunday 🙂

Not all chains come with sticky grease but when they do, i reckon you should clean it off, I've never had anything but terrible results leaving it on in anything but perfect conditions. It's not suppose to be lube, it's factory grease to prevent corrosion. I don't know whether that's changed since Sheldon wrote that or whether he just didn't ride in mud or something.
