So I ordered a 853 Rock Lobster knowing it was out of stock in June. They tell me it will be 3 months. I wait 3 months, its going to be another 2 months. I phone them and they suggest that I could consider buying a frame from Cotic, On-One or Genesis and they will build it up for me.
Cotic have the Soul and Bfe.
On One have the 456.
Genesis have the Latitude 853.
What do I do? Wait or choose a new frame?
Have you checked the geometry of all the alternatives?
I used to have a Rock Lobster and it was indeed a great bike but found the top tube rather short.
I considered a Genesis Altitude (frame only) but there did not seem to be any to view within a large radius of Southern England.
Years ago had a 456 and these do have a long top tube but it really was too big for me.
Fast forward and I now have a Soul, geometry being spot on for me. Was built up with 120mm forks and stuff transferred from the full suss. I would say it is like a work horse - dependable - and have really enjoyed it.
But, the geometry is the important thing. Plus of course the sort of riding you want it for.
HTH.
If you want something more like the Rock Lobster geometry wise, then check out a (normal non-skinny) Charge Duster.
Being completely biased though, I think you'd love a Soul.
Soul would get my vote - in orange
Or an older 853 on one..
I had a RL and top tube was too short
PlopNofear, just emailed/spoke to your Dad, offered to lend you my 853 Inbred, will set it up 1x9 gears on it for you, unless you want it SS ๐
& you can use that until your RL is ready?
