[#3210700]

Quite tempted by this given that my 32 Floats need a service anyway and I'm currently running a 1 1/8th steerer on a 1.5 taper frame, figure I could kill two birds with one stone. This might be a stupid question, but is there any reason why you couldn't change 1 1/8th uppers for 1.5 tapered uppers on a fork that was originally standard? I'm assunming all the width's and offsets are the same regardless of the steerer??

Prices:
Includes Full service, any additional parts will be charged at their usual price.

32MM Fork service with 1-1/8" Kashima CSU £254.00
32MM Fork service with 1.5" Taper Kashima CSU £264.00
32MM Talas Fork service with 1-1/8" Kashima CSU £264.00
32MM Talas Fork service with 1.5" Taper Kashima CSU £274.00
36MM Fork service with 1-1/8" Kashima CSU* £311.00
36MM Fork service with 1.5" Taper Kashima CSU* £322.00

Float Shock Service with Kashima body & Kashima Standard Air can £176.00
Float Shock Service with Kashima body & Kashima XV Air can £196.00
DHX Air Shock Service with Kashima body & Kashima Standard Air can £194.00
DHX Air Shock Service with Kashima body & Kashima XV Air can £214.00
DHX RC4 Service with Kashima Shaft £136.00

The only reasons I can think of:
You'll potentially kill it's resale value, as not many bike have a 1.5 compatible headtube, so the market is limited... though if you mean to keep them until the die, this won't matter.

What the current 2nd hand value of your fork? Would this and the added cost of the upgrade, buy your some new replacements with a 1.5 steerer?
(as above, even new 1.5 steerer forks, can be reduced substantially by the shops at this time off year)

My 32 TALAS are due a service but what program to get....FIT upgrade program or Kashima upgrade program? Only one way...etc, etc

Personally I reckon FIT over Kashima (Although Kashima will look pretty) in terms of performance/weight improvement

:edit: Might be dumb question but do you get the old CSU back on the Kashima program?

Get the FIT damper, best upgrade on my talas, then use fork juice. I have to add compression tuning when using fork juice. I also swapped the uppers out for a tapered steerer.

New 2012 model forks are available from the US for around £500
So only £250 more than the Kashima upgrade from Mojo

How much would you get for your old forks on eBay

I've had 2 lots from him and found him polite and honest

Kashima upgrade would really improve the longevity of the uppers, stiction is a real plus, but the increased life is what would sell it for me.

Buttscratcher

Is it the fact that they are bling shiney looking that you look after the fork more?

If you look after them they won't go wrong and mojo are very good with their service sorting me out many times for no fee.

FIT Damper upgrade will make more difference than Kashima in my opinion.

Fork Juice works too 😀

I had the FIT damper upgrade performed on some 2005 36 talas R forks, it was worthwhile, a significant improvement in damping and I got the RC2 damping adjustments rather than just the being able to alter the rebound. They feel exactly the same as a 2011 36 fork now.

The kashima upgrade looks pretty pricey in comparison and I think of questionable value.

but sounds like the most beneficial/cost effective way to recover your forks if you are one of the countless thousands who have seen their stanchions grooved prematurely.
I think I was quoted something like £250 for the CSU previously, plus service cost. So £250 inc service sounds a bit better. I might even resurrect my Float RLs and get then done as a spare.

To my mind, as it's £100ish plus postage just for a service (postage is free with the upgrade), I'm happy to pay the extra for the upgrade, which for me is running the correct size steerer tube as well as the blingy coating so it's worth doing. As a purely cosmetic exercise I'm not so sure though.

Correction to my previous post, specifically cost of CSUs.
I've just got off the phone from Mojo.

For PART only (32RL), costs are:
CSU (hard anodised) = £134
CSU (Kashima) = £184
FIT cartridge = £184

For upgrades (inc service)
Kashima CSU = £254
FIT = £249

So, if wanting both, the most cost effective combination is the FIT upgrade (inc service) plus the Kashima CSU (as a part) = £433..... OUCH! I think I'd be looking at a new fork!

Sounds like an expensive solution to forks which any right minded person would class as being defective.

^^^ Yeah, oliverd1981, I wouldn't argue with your assessment. There is a reason why the Floats are sat in a corner of the garage 😕

Kashima doesn't look anything like the colour in the adverts - just bought two new 2011 Kashima forks and the stanchions look the virtually the same colour as pre-kashima forks.

Bit of a sweeping statement that.
So I have used this guy - straightfwd transaction which got me a new set of forks hundreds of pounds cheaper than the UK prices. Took a few weeks, got exactly what I wanted, job done. Whats not to like.
Personally - I'd recommend coloradocycles to anyone.
Just to balance this out

My 2011 36 Kashima Floats look like the advert, totally different colour to the normal stanchions on my other Fox Forks.
