Is there any detrimental effect (increased chainsuck etc?) of running a Middleburn inner and outer with a Shimano middle ring on my XTR (960) chainset?
Other than the shifting may not be as smooth as full XTR rings
Im guessing they may also wear at different rates but would this matter much as if I spend most time in middle ring it would wear first anyway

Middleburn inner chainrings chainsuck like mad. Do not buy them unless you hate your frame. Other then that, no worries about mixing and matching.

Although if you spend most of your time in the middle ring (like everyone), have you considered going for a 2 ring or 1 ring set up? Cheaper, lighter, simpler, less places for mud to gather, better clearance, better wear rates, etc. etc.

Never had any issue with chainsuck due to middleburn rings that wouldn't have been exactly the same running shimano rings, they last and perform as well as shimano in my book (ok maybe they don't change as slickly as the big S), but hey ho.
I have decided to give up on them though, as they seemingly don't last any longer than shimano rings, but cost a lot more.

Actually found rosebikes do rings (deore/slx) cheaper than buying a new chainset (this isn't the case elsewhere in my experience)

Middleburn inner chainrings chainsuck like mad.

I've had the same experience with 'slickshift hardcoat' type on my 960.
They seem a little wider at the tooth than OE shimano which might not help.

What other options are there for non-Shimano 960 rings?

Not for Shimano M960 they don't!

I mixed a middleburn outer with shimano inner and middle, was a bit of a nightmare and resulted in one slightly mangled XTR front mech when the middleburn outer picked up the chain when it was in the middle ring and pulled it under the mech.

I think the spacing is very slightly different so mix at your peril!

Fair comment, but then I 'only' run (old) XT.

I got a Shimano inner now from Rose for £19.90 so no worries, I will leave the outer as it is for now as I rarely use it
Cant find the 22t tooth inners in UK online shops, but Rose significantly cheaper anyway

yep they are the place to buy from at the moment, and they seem to have accepted my visa debit card as a visa credit card (had all my fingers crossed).. awkward when you don't own a CC card...
