Looks like i might find myself in between jobs soon, and when that happens i want to be ready to take off on a mini solo road trip...

basic outline being something like;

Mon; drive to Keswick, ride (insert ride 1), pub, camp/yha/hotel (insert recco)
Tue; ride lakes again (insert ride 2) then drive up to Peebles. single rooms only £40p/n in the hydro....
Wed; ride Glentress / Cademuir
Thurs; ride Inners / Golfie, then drive back to Lakes
Fri; ride (insert ride 3) then drive home to Manchester

rides 1 & 2 will probably be something like Grizedale/Whiteless one day, Skiddaw/Ullock the next
ride 3 can be anywhere between Peebles and home, but was thinking maybe the shortened Borrowdale Bash? or a Howgills loop? ill be knackered by then anyway - may even just drive home from Peebles Thursday night....

recco 1, im looking for somewhere in the keswick area i can camp or kip in the van. super cheap, good pub close by, nice view to wake up to and a shower.

Thoughts?

I spent a couple of days in that layby last time I was between jobs. Also near the stone circle which is a bit further away from town.

Give Stuart at the Dales Bike Centre a buzz - excellent natural riding in all directions, and he has great accomodation/showers/cafe on site. If you engage his guiding services, he will show you some great trails, and make you feel even more unfit than usual.

(Hi, Stuart, planning a revisit, but maybe after your refurbish)

You will not be on your own in that Keswick layby, was absolutely rammed with campers & vans last time we met there for a ride start a few months ago.

If it were me I'd consider heading up to the Highlands though. Maybe with a stop at Dunkeld en route.

Possible ride 3 - Breasthigh Road loop out of Tebay - right on the M6 if that is your route home and saves having to drive back into the Lakes

re the layby. i only have a small van, i dont mind the odd night in it before an early start but i dont wanna return to it after a ride. prefer somewhere i can have a shower then sit by a fire for a few hours...

im pretty dedicated to the idea of riding the tweed and the lakes, ive ridden both before plenty so know how much i like them, but never seem to find the time to get back often enough... Dales is pretty far out of my way and ive done ard rock a handful of times. Breasthigh Road sounds like a god option tho!!
