[#7901833]

As you all are aware I'm looking for a hardtail 29er frame to build up.

So far I'm stuck between a ragley bigwig and a nukeproof scout 290.

Before I pull the plug are there any others I should be looking at.

Needs to take 120-140 fork and able to have a front mech.

142 through would be a bonus too.

Help me out here peeps !!

Thanks.

Steve.

I'd be giving my money to Last right now if they had any large Fastforwards left.
In fact I will be giving them some money from "around June 15th"

I think you'll be happy, stu. Best fun riding I've had this year was chasing a friend on hsi 160mm bike down one of our Enduro trails on the FF, right on his tail.

I just wish I'd looked past the offset back end and ordered one first time round when I had the chance. ๐Ÿ˜ณ

What's the score with the offset rear end and wheel then ?

Better spoke angles for more lateral wheel stiffness, so the drive side spokes are further from the vertical than on a normal wheel build where the rim is exactly in the middle of the dropouts.

@chief

I assume that means that The Last FF needs a specific rear wheel build then, or am I being thick?

My guess is just a re-dish. About a tenner at your LBS.

As nice as the Last is I would need a complete new wheel as mine is 142.

Plus it has slidey dropouts which Im not a fan off as the ones fitted to my old Bizango kept slipping.

Is the vitus sentier 29 any good?

How did you get the Bizango dropouts to slip? I hammered mine ss and they never budged.

Surprised you've not mentioned a 2Souls Stu? ๐Ÿ˜€

Or how about Kona Honzo - in steel, alu or ti (now carbon too).

Or Canfield Yelli, Nimble 9 or Epo?

Wasn't your last thread just a list of long travel 29ers? Now you want a list of long 29ers.

From what I gather just buy anything as you'll not like it and will want rid soon enough.

Doing some research to make sure i buy correctly

I would like a frame that can take 140mm forks and have a decent reach

Just go and try a few different bikes and work it out for yourself.

There's a list of them up there.^^^

Yeah... would have preferred boost, but since I was buying wheels for it, it really didn't matter. Zero hassle with wheel changes thus far (and I've had a few.... still figuring out pressures)

Yes, It's a Mk2 Large. Best hardtail I've ever ridden ๐Ÿ™‚

Singular Swift takes up to 120mm according to Sam, although it might be a bit slack and floppy.

Mine is 100mm, and it's great, but I have been wondering about turning it up a bit.

It's a great frame though.

Swift bit limited by head tube too, only straight steerer forks.

Nice that Solaris.

Can't find a honzo in frame only.

Worried the bigwig will be to short and to similar to the parkwood.

Concerned the nukeproof will be to stiff.

Try Steve D at I-Cycles, I'm pretty sure he had a large FF frame in.

Geometry with commitment! Minimum 100mm travel forks or 490mm rigid. Strong enough for up to 120mm forks

That'll be the Solaris ruled out then.

Personally can't see why you're insisting on up to 140mm on a 29er hard tail (me, Mk I Solaris, 100mm Reba's)

I have a set of 140mm revs that I'm hoping to use.

Would it be easy to shorten the travel on them ?

Can't honestly say but my Reba's are 120's shortened by 20mm.

And I've a pair of revs in 120 flavour on lend to try out as part of my 650 B+ experiment.

So I'd be surprised if it wasn't.

Also, Solaris is 135mm rear end.

The new Stanton is 140mm compatible and is to have swap outs for ss, 135 and 142 iirc but best to check the website.

I also have a 142 x12 rear wheel that narrows the choice down.

Basically I'm trying to build two bikes up (1 full suss and 1 hardtail) with the same bits so I can swap them around quick enough if I wanted to ride one or the other.

Scout frame can take 140mm and 142 as can the bigwig.

Are there others.

Um....Canfield YS, Nimble 9 and Epo. All 142 and will take a 140 fork. Choice of alu/steel/carbon.b ๐Ÿ˜ฏ

owned 2 badly designed 150mm forked hardtails in the past.....pretty awefull on anything other than downhill.

Fixed that for you. I'd recommend a Chromag Rootdown (or BA) about now but it appears Shore Lines aren't bringing them in this year.

The Ragley looks alright, wasn't around when I got the Rootdown last year.
Looking at my spreadsheet from last year you should look at the Transition Trans-Am 29, Banshee Paradox and Titus Fireline Evo.

I might also be tempted to have a look at Nicolai for a Custom Argon-TB with Geometron-esque Geo.

140mm is long travel ๐Ÿ˜ฏ

I was going to suggest The Wreckoning, but that must Extra Long Travel with 160mm. ๐Ÿ˜‰ ๐Ÿ˜†

Very few 142 wheels that can't be converted to QR, I'd have thought - waht kind of hub/wheel is it?

It's a specialized own hubbed wheel which I don't think it changeable.

Specialized hubs tend to have DT Swiss internals, so a set of the right DT end caps will probably do the trick.

As per honourablegeorge, who I might add has still not posted anything significant about his fastforward; 142 and 135 are basically the same axle length and are usually easily converted between each other.
