How are users finding the casing? Especially compared to DoubleDown? Getting fed up with Maxxis after a split EXO plus with rimpact strip.
Riding the front version of the Michelin but I think the rear is more reinforced going off the weights?
There’s no such thing as extreme enduro rear for MTB, it’s a motocross tyre.
Wild enduro then?
Rear is same thickness as front pretty much.
I have split a rear Michelin but it still held air fine where as I destroyed a Maxxis exo+ in 2 rides and it wouldn’t hold air.
Michelin’s def aren’t as thick as a DD casing tho!
Not as tough as a DD in my opinion. Somewhere between an EXO+ & a DD. The front feels somewhere between an EXO & an EXO+ which kind of correlates to weights.
The bigger issue for me is they are too square on a 30mm rim, whereas a 2.4 Maxxis is still a rounder carcass.
Yeah. Thanks for those replies. Seems to correlate with my initial thoughts.
DD it is then. Though I am hesitant to spend my hard earned on Maxxis. Circa 125 quids worth of DHR2 EXO+ on the bike at the moment, one with a deformation and one a couple of hours old with two significant splits. Arse.
What are you doing to destroy tyres?
If you like the Michelin on the front, you'll love it on the rear. The back one is a little bit heavier / stronger accoring to the website.
I've run Michelin Wild Enduros for the last 3 years in the all conditions (trail centres, Cairngorms and the Alps) and can't even remember the last time I had a puncture - and that's running them really soft at aroun 20-22psi.
For balance, I wrote a DD Agressor off 3/4 way through the first ride one it with a massive slash across the top of the tread.
Finally had a proper go on my Michelin WE yesterday at Whinlatter and they were really good.
We had a quick warmup on the blue and missus holed her Reckon+ within 2 mins...
I've punctured more Maxxis than any other tyre, but to be fair I've owned more of them than any other.
I wouldn't touch another Maxxis tyre again...... I had a DHF on the rear last all of a week before the casing went pear shape, since then I've being running Michelins front and rear for the last few years and won't be changing anytime soon. I'm running them with Rimpacts with no problems what so ever. My riding is mostly the peaks and DH local trails. The only thing I would say is they don't like tarmac..... I ripped a few side lugs off on a commute ride last month.
had my first puncture with a rear wild enduro tuesday night. the tyre was 11 months old and was on its last legs anyway. i've never had anywhere near that long out of a rear tyre before with maxxis even DD. ordered another straight away along with the front one as well.
it nearly defeated me trying to get it of the rim though, very tight, don't think i would of managed on the trail. luckily had a liner in and as it happened at the bottom of the final descent rode the few road miles back to the van with it flat.
I don't run Maxxis on the rear anymore, after too many failures. Front are fine though (DHF WT)
Currently on a Mich Wild Enduro and it's holding up well.
I gave up with Maxxis after slashing and ripping DD and EXO casings in the Lakes. Went to Schwalbe SG and ripped the knob right off. Been running Michelin Wild Enduro front and rear for 9 months in the Lakes with no punctures gashes or knob tearing. I am quite happy with them and enjoying wearing them out properly.
I've not killed a Michelin in 12months 1500miles
Need a new one as its worn out not ripped to shreds like a schwalbe
Split 2 aggressor exo casing tyres before they were a month old. The wild enduro has just worn out after 9 months and the sidewalls are fine
One little quirk I did notice with mine though. It took a couple of rides before the front stopped losing air. Even though the bead looked seated, it seemed to need a bit more to seal.
Thought it was my dodgy taping, but it happened on two sets of wheels. All good now though!
