I've a pair of Mavic road wheels that I bought second hand two years ago that (at the time) hadn't been ridden at all. They've seen a fair bit of use since then, but have been well enough looked after. However, one of the flanges on the rear hub that holds the (shoulderless) spokes has disintegrated which leaves the hub useless.
As I bought them second hand, I don't hold the warranty and to complicate matters, they were bought abroad by the original owner, but I still reckon I should expect a bit more life out of kit like that.
I'm thinking I should contact Mavic in the hope of getting a replacement, and wondered if anyone has any experiences of doing this (esp out of warranty) and any pointers?
Ta!
What wheels are they ?
I seem to to recall a 2 year warranty being mentioned in a previous thread.....
They're Ksyrium Elites - I know Mavic had a big recall on R-SYS front wheels last year.
Just wondering if its worth contacting Mavic or would it be better going via a dealer, and how far I'd get.
warranty valid to the original owner
Mavic wheels have a traceable serial number, which would usually be linked to the shop that sold them, and cross referenced with proof of purchase upon a warranty claim.
Mavic service centre will be able to quote for repair, take them to a dealer and tehy will be able to organise it all.
I really like Mavic kit and have had their wheelsets but have been badly let down by poor customer service in the past. Even the UK service centre down south were useless at best.My local L.B.C.even tried to source the parts i required and were told the wheels are a few years old its about time he bought some new ones!!
Will prob have some more in the future but will dread it if anything goes pop.
Best of luck

i wouldnt buy them again.
Same thing happened to the rear hub on my Elites after about 3 years and 12k miles. I binned mine.
Cheers for the responses folks, reckon this will be written off to experience. Guess I got my money's worth out of them, so no harm no foul.
