Hi chaps,
I'm bored of my current route through sheffield, its entirely on road and fairly flat. Now the weather is getting better I'd like to extend my ride home.
Does anyone know of some sneaky trails in the area?
Depends...There is a much faster, nicer route, mainly off-roads...but dont take an expensive bike - its Manor Dahling ๐
When you leave work (AMP?) pick up the bridleway opposite on the left as you head back up the hill towards the roundabouts under the parkway (opposite the Sanderson(?) office). This will take you off-road nearly to Asda on the Parkway. Keep alongside the Parkway all the way - lots of in/out bits with some woodsy bits, some steps etc. Mind the burnt out cars, dumped fridges and kids skiving school for a tab in the woods...It chucks you out on Manor Way, where you can do a left turn uphill for 10m or so, right down Maltravers Road and you are at the incinerator - I would then do a left along Bernard Street and Talbot Street (you would now be behind the station with nice view, and some cheekyness in the Plague Park if wanted), and onto the inner ring road at Sheaf Square
In the city centre? Nope. You could head from Ecclesall over Crooks and take in the BMX track followed by a bit of urban down to Rivelin Valley, like;
You can see where the BMX track is, after that you need to find the steps and alley ways down.
As for real trails...
Trust me - its a nice cycle and fast or fun depending on your moood - done it loads as a nice way back from Ulley when I worked there.
I forgot the other extension ๐ Check out Treeton Woods and St Mary's woods. They do have bridleways, but are also rather brazen on the cheeky side so avoid the warden! lumps, drops n fun abound...
You could pick the canal towpath up at Valley Centertainment and that'll take you into the canal basin/Victoria Quays at Park Square Roundabout.
Or to make things a touch longer you could turn the other way along Shepcote lane and pick the canal up at Tinsley Viaduct.
Cheers for the help fellas! Yeah I'm coming from the AMP. I do like the sound of Matts route, although the reason i was coming through attercliffe was to avoid any run-ins through Manor (mumsie tells me to take the safe way home from school :wink:).
My bright orange Orange might attract a few magpies riding along there?
I rode a sub 5 for a couple of years on that route with no problems...
Pah I'll be fine then!
Tomorrow is exploration day!
manual/wheelie ther entire route?
I'd be willing to stand on Eccy road and throw shit at you a few mornings each week for a nominal fee, would that spice it up for you.
