Afternoon all, anyone know what cage clearance I should be aiming for between the largest sprocket and outside cage of a shimano slx m660-10e (e type 10 speed). The installation manual refers to some sort of "pro alignment tool" which I don't have. I assume it's the usual 1-2mm of clearance?
Must admit I am not impressed at all by my LBS who supposedly set my bike up perfectly! Currently the outside of my m660 cage sits about 8-10mm above the largest sprocket which i am sure is too high and probably accounts for the shit performance. Front shifts are fine on rear top 4 gears but below this I think the chain is sitting too low in front cage if that makes sense!
Many thanks ๐
Haaaa .....sorted it. I have an e type DMD mount - there are three torx bolts holding the front derailer onto the swing arm. The bolt heads run on the same PCD as the inner sprocket so you cannot get to them without removing this......well that's what I thought until I discovered that if I removed one of the sprocket retaining bolts, I could stick torx driver through the hole and it just about lined up with head. Massive fiddle but got there in the end. turns out there are two ally shims on the DMD moun. Stupid LBS must have put them in wrong way round. I swapped over the shims lowering the cage and hey presto !!!! All three gears work perfect and no chain rub at all ๐
