[#9847646]

has anyone done a renewal on the m&s home insurance for bike specific additions? just done a quote as its that time of year and its added a further £60 a month to the policy, nothings changed at all, no claims, in a nice area

also ive done a quote for a different area and its still adding 60 quid a month, so have m & s changed the pricing?

is there any alternative to use that's provides same level of cover as m&s? been with them over 10 years, always been around 30 quid a month, now its going upto 80 quid a month!

We went to Pedal Cover, good prices and there's been a couple of threads on here recommending them after having to claim.

Got our renewal a couple of weeks ago, gone up quite alot, rang them to find out why and it was to do with the amount of bikes that were on it over £2000
Been with them 20+ years.
Had a long chat with the guys at Pedalcover to ensure I wss getting at least the same amount of cover and as a result have moved to them. My understanding are that they are brokers and depending on cover needed use a couple of companies depending on the bikes.

cheers fathomer 🙂 will look into it

tracey - only 1 bike for me, just rejigged it around a little bit added the mrs on the policy and its dropped significantly! still more, but about 13 quid a month more now (better than 60 quid more!), which is still annoying but I know the covers good

also is the pedal cover one, as good as m & s for ease of insurance? basically m & s its just insured, regardless of lock regulations and all the all other crap

Ive looked at both my policy docs and cant find anything thats different. We were on the old M and S one. I rang M and S up but they werent bothered in quoting any less.

+1 for pedal cover. Axa back policy. If it's in the garage and the garage locked its covered. If it's locked to something while I'm out and about it's covered. If I accidentally damage it it's covered.

Premiums have gone down year on year for the last three years. You talk to an actual real life human (mostly about bikes last time actually) and they sent me a a pedal cover jersey at Christmas.

We did M&S ~12 years ago for a few years, while we had a few new bikes, but their quotes got silly so we moved on.

Yes pedalcover are good.  But wouldn't cover me after my burglary (they didn't take any bikes) and axa took the piss when I moved house mid term (premium increase of £1000) so I'm with admiral and named bike cover.  Slightly more expensive than I was paying before.

So lesson learnt is decent insurance appears to be a single use type thing, after that you get smashed with increased premiums, so much so that a cheap policy and self insuring makes sense...

I left M&S after a comedy renewal quotation. Now with Direct Line, dealt with my one and only claim (stolen Karate Monkey......b*stards) v good customer service, my bill was up the following year (due to the theft ...b*stards) but when I compared and rang round, they turned out to still to be the cheapest. I have a fleet of ever changing weird stuff so wanted nothing to specific...

Why not, if you don't mind me asking?

M+S recently sent me a letter saying they had changed underwriters. I was going to try pedal cover next time, or direct line. I think pedal cover will do holidays included which is worth it for me as a bike trip a year is probably £75.

Because I had 2 claims in 5 years.... one for storm damage (£700 ish)  to the roof and one for burglary (£7000)

They were very nice about it, presume axa policy just says no, also said if I had a third claim in 5 years I would struggle to find mainstream insurers to take me on.

Just hope you aren't unlucky to have to claim more than once in a 5 year period.

We went with pedal cover as the santa cruz blew up other premuims(most wouldnt cover a 6k bike) despite it being in the house as opposed to a garage. Was quite impressed and the actual gome and contents is better than others were offering.

After M&S completely cocked up our cover, lack of cover and ability to explain what they actually can or will cover, I left them early and got £100 apology for being so bad...
The 'honest you're covered, no we won't put it in writing' approach they had was just not good enough.
I'm now with pedalcover too.

I use Hiscox. Don’t even need to list my bikes separately. Covered under contents at home, and possessions when out.
