Morning,

Went out on Saturday and did a 'quick' 14 miles trip on the MTB. It's only the second time I've been out this year and as expected I noticed quite a drop in fitness.

Is there any merit in following a structured training schedule/regime to regain the fitness, or just get out on the bike and ride what I like, how I like?

Thanks.

depends what you are trying to achieve really. To ride more comfortably or to get to a point?

Just riding is good for judt riding

Depends, I'm finding just riding helps more at the moment after a 4 month enforced lay off.

I think structured training has it's place, but it's for when you run out of time in a week and have a specific goal. No point limiting yourself to 4 interval sessions in a week, if you've time for 10 commutes and a weekend ride and your goal is just to lose some weight. The structure is more about doing the right workout (sub threshold, threshold, VO2max, sprint) and then having enough reovery (aprox none, some, a day, 2 days respectively) inbetweeen.
