I'm changing the rear derailleur on my Remedy,to an XTR,which is an SGS.Does this have any implications for the cassette, currently a 11-34,and will the chain length alter,as the cage is about 1" shorter?

the length of the cage determines how much 'extra' chain it can 'save up' If you have a triple at the front you may find the chain is 'baggy' when you are in little ring and little sprocket or too tight when you are in big and big.

IIRC short cage Shimano mechs are designed for a max of 11-28 teeth (you might want to check the Shimano site to confirm that) You can generally "make" them work over a larger range, but it's never happy.

Apparently it's a GS midcage,it came off a RM ETS-X with 11-34 rear,and 22-32-42 front,if it makes any difference.

You may need to check that there's enough take up in the short/medium cage mech to allow for any change in chain length at each end of suspension travel.
