At a guess, PU stands for polyurethane and should be the clear ones.

I have the black one and find them to be really good. I never thought that I could be impressed so much with a bit of stick on leather! They are very discreet and the logo on mine is embossed rather than coloured so it just looks like a matte black patch. Stick like s**t to a blanket too.

CRC have them in stock for £4.99 and the clear ones are described as:

"Made from polyurethane and come with high performance adhesive"

so it would appear that alexonabike is correct.

I've found the clear ones much better than the carbon effect one. The carbon effect ones I had slid after not too long & left adhesive marks. They also started lifting at the edges around curved surfaces (they are stiffer than the PU ones. But, they did the job where they stayed in place.
A mate of mine has had a similar problem with them sliding out of position.

I only use the clear ones now & good preparation is definitely a good idea. Clean the area thorouhly and if you can, heat the frame up a bit as well as the protector piece (I use a hairdryer). I heat it until it goes really soft (the protector not the frame!), which seems to make the adhesive work better & the protector forms around curves nicely.

Bit off the original question but have you tried park puncture patches. THey're thick, clear and stop cable rub. I put some one my bike as a quick fix when I had nothing else and have been surprised that they are the best frame protectors I've used. No coming unstuck afer about a year and almost completely invisible.

Go to a motorbike shop and get some from there - they tend to be a lot cheaper, you get more and they're a lot stickier!
