whats out there thats light enough to replace a road bike for general road duties and club runs tru training and also a little off road and commuting. looking at under 1400g for a frame. suggestions please in a size of around 54
cheers
Why not just buy a wide clearance road bike? Do you mean 1400g frame or 1400g frame and fork?
I'd suggest that you'd be much better off buying some kind of audax frame instead for the 95% of riding that you'll do with it.
The new carbon Cannondale is very pretty and light too. Prepare to take out a new mortgage to afford one though.
Giant TCX frameset might be worth a look. A medium frame weighs in at just under 1400g

Scott Addict CX. I've seen cross bikes based on this frame built up as heavy as my road bike! I've been told that it's perfectly road raceable but quite stiff.
I'm excited by the new Cannondale SuperX as I really enjoyed the Flash I test rode. I suspect this might be a nice ride and is super light.
Giant have a new carbon cross bike out which I've seen and it looks nice but I know little about it other than what's on the web.
Kuota Kross seem quite popular at races and are a reasonable price for such a light frame.
I take it you want to race cross with it as well as road duties? I'm half thinking of replacing the road bike with something from the above to save space and then I'd have a spare cross bike, but cross bikes are always a bit of a compromise on the road. Brakes particularly aren't as good. It depends how important road riding is to you I guess...
how about CSix2, 1480g for frame and fork

i got the fiveT with mudgaurd, rack, bottle mounts which i think is much more suitable to your needs. 1700g frame only, good cheap cross bike
