I'm looking for some ligth and strong wheels that would do well on a ragley piglet.

Price range:£0-£150

Light, strong, cheap.

Choose two.

I went for xc717s. I've not received them yet so I can't tell you much about them but I went with them on the basis that they are tried and tested high end Mavic gear which will stand up to abuse.

Granted they are light which means that an awkward smash will most probably total them but I don't ride like a madman and like to pick lines so I'm probably fine for a few years.

I'm putting mine on a steel 456.

I decided against the ZTR rims due to lack of eyelets and too many people telling me how comparatively weaker the rims were, despite the width.

I might go tubeless too and XC717s, while not a tubeless rim, have been used by countless people converted in many different ways with most common tyres. So they do work.

I bought them on Chainreaction and bought them individually, one wheel at a time and used the current £15 off voucher on each one. With topcashback as well (yes I am a tight get), XC717s on XT hubs with champion spokes cost me under £190... You can probably stick with the SLX hubs, or Deore if you have to, with basic spokes and have a wheel that will come into your budget. I would spend that bit more though.

Light or strong, pick one more like. (Especially regarding wheel components)

Price is often completely irrelivent to quality of design/manufacture of cycle components.

what do you class as light? because if you wanting strong as well your looking at a wheelset which is 1700gm+ at under £150
