plenty of technical stuff on the black for me to mong/mince around on, but the red route is brilliant, especially at night..
That's all really. Me having fun.

I thought the black was a bit over-hyped. Basically the (awesome) red with lots of fire-road to get to the frankfully very un-exciting slickrock.

What's a 'Fire Road'? You mean forestry track surely? ๐Ÿ˜‰

I rode Kirriughtree on New years day 2007. On my own, hungover, lashing with rain and wind and badly prepared. Despite that, one of most memorable rides ever. Superb.

Hardly any fireroad at Kirroughtree if you follow the markers? I'd reckon of the whole route about 90% must be on singletrack. And good singletrack too!

I love Kirroughtree by far the best of the Stanes .. I would agree about 90% singletrack .. I try to get there atleast once a month.

I fell off on the Jabberwocky section. Banged my head, my glasses fell off.

Black over-hyped!! Suppose its your opinion but you must admit after climbing heartbreak hill and getting to the peak, the black across the top of the hill, then down it, over the road onto new singletrack section then onto hissing sid before rejoining the red is pretty amazing stuff. Sounds stupid i know but the faster i go on those trails the more it makes sense to how it was built and the bike feels superb underneath. Nothing in britain compares to Kirroughtree

kirr red at night is mighty, there is too much forestry road if you do the

black alone but mixed red and black its fine.

it flows so fast yum yum

Never done golspie so cant say,but its meant to be good although supposedly big climb followed by a massive descent (Glen T anyone). Kirro is alot of flowing singletrack. Needs to be rode to be liked

IMO Golspie is better but Kirroughtree really is excellent. I am going there in a couple of weeks and really looking forward to it.

10 Around Kirroughtree - best MTB race on the UK calendar!
Approaching the line at 9.55 and people desperately trying to get there before the bell, not cos they're doing really well but cos they want another lap even after 10hrs of riding round it. ๐Ÿ™‚

But the black route follows pretty much all of the red route anyway... What are you doing that you do the black route without any of the red bits? And although its been a while since I've done it, a lot of the forest track has been cut out of the black now.

I don't remember much forestry road apart from a little bit to get to the start of the black section I think. Kirroughtree is awesome imo - best trail centre I've been to.

Has a real 'big country' feel to it compared to most trail centres (yeah I know its not that big compared to lots of other bits of Scotland etc). ๐Ÿ˜›

I am heading back to Kirroughtree because when I went I took the wrong bike (think 40lb FR bike!!) and want to give it a proper go on something more suitable ๐Ÿ™‚ I was wasted after 5 miles lugging that thing around so think I left with the wrong opinion. Only a couple of months or so till I am back there....

Maybe it's time for a re-visit. Looking at my photos the last time I rode there was 2006, so maybe they nukes some of the 'forestry road' with replacement singletrack.

Will be there twice this year for racing anyway, will maybe ride the black on the Sunday after 10@K.

I think they have Dougal. I was there a few weeks ago for the first time for a while and there were quite a few new singletrack sections compared to my visit before that.

this is if you start at center I like do the black as a ride alone sometimes twice starting at " heart breakhill"
