[#11334714]

Just had a good couple of days with eldest kid (7 going on 8) at Gisburn. Nothing hardcore on his Islabike hybrid, but it's become apparent he could do with gearing up in a few areas... also it's his birthday soon 🙂

So... riders with kids out there, any recommendations around:

* Sunglasses (to keep grit out of eye as well as sun)
* Bike trousers (or possibly long shorts... brambles etc are better with a long leg though)
* Gloves
* Place to buy any/all of the above (online or in Yorkshire area)? I've never found a bike shop that does a good range of kids' accessories but it's possible I've been looking in the wrong places.

Polaris had deals on again recently I think.

Altura, Decathlon all worked when my two were little

For long trousers we had some Altura stuff and Ron Hill bikesters

Little Riders have come up in my searches for kit recently, can't remember if they did shorts though.

ShredXS or Decathlon, obviously the latter is cheaper than the former but ShredXS looks like it has some decent kit.

Shred XS is good quality kit, my lad has a few pairs of Dakine Pace Shorts which are excellent for summer riding and can be picked up on ebay for a decent price. As for gloves he used to like madison gloves in various guises.

9 year old loves his cheap PlanetX Carnac sunglasses.

Cycleheaven’s main store in York carry children’s clothing.

I'm in a different part of the country, but I find my local BMX shop that supports BMX racing has a good range of kids stuff covering goggles, gloves and trousers etc. Maybe worth checking if you have one nearby.

+1 for kidsracing.com.

My 8 year old is currently sporting a set of these glasses. They are ace.

My 8 year old's using Madison Gloves and Shorts, done very well so far. The youth trail Baggies are a nice, long, tough trail short with a padded liner and they're what he pulls out of the drawer more than anything else.

We've also got a few pricier bits and bobs from Fox, Dakine and Maloja.

The Maloja kids stuff is lovely, but with price tags to match. Worth it if it can be handed down and worn by multiple nippers as it lasts really well.

Thanks! Plenty of good ideas there.

We're not local to York but not too far away and I do know Cycle Heaven... that might be a good bricks-and-mortar place to check out - could combine with a cafe trip & ride along the river or something. Will look through the online options too.

If going to CycleHeaven, the main one, they have an excellent cafe
