I was tail end Charlie so missed the cut off due due to stragglers. Bell still works but was annoying the shit out of me by the end.

Everybody who didn't bail got past cut off one afaik but our last bailers were so slow that we missed cp1. Beyond that I didn't pay much attention before I left.

Supposed to have been harder this year. Even more climbing.

Weather was superb. Red routes were a little lumpy to say the least..

Mens Open Winner finished in 7:58 but I didn't catch his name either. Too tired to remember it.

I got asked to leave after 56 miles (plus a 4 mile ride back to the start), 2250m of climbing and three mechanical assists which probably cost me an hour. Without the mech assists I would probably have been close to making the cut off, but once I knew I wasn't going to make it I slowed significantly.

As I suspected I wasn't fit enough, mainly due to not dragging my lazy body out training enough, but I'd definitely give it another go.

sure it was andy something who won. Neal Crompton came 3rd. Guy who won was 20 odd minutes ahead. Next guys started coming in about 8:25ish i think.
Hot day, course was tough with relentless climbing. Sure it was filled with punctures and crashes everywhere, especially with fatigue. guy on a ss rigid 29er wiped out right beside me on a descent doing about 30mph. Was in a bad state but still finished the race ( amazing when you seen the state of him). I got blessed (not) with 2 punctures in the last 4 miles ( 1 on the last descent) which cost me 4 places. Grrrrrrr.
Overall a very tough day out, nutrition and drinking was essential to keep going. Still had the puddles of doom in it 👿
Funny to be behind the pace car which stopped after 3/4 mile to let those who were still at the start line catch up, only for the vehicle to get moving and stall straight away. Pace of the fast riders was extreme hardcore although they started fading through the race and those who started medium began to catch up. Climbing involved had to be experienced to be believed.

Everyone did really well. 56 miles is no mean feat especially with all that climbing and those trail surfaces! 🙂

First rider came through that checkpoint/cutoff just before 11 with rider 2 about three mins behind. By 100 miles he was at least 15 mins in front (Course was a bit more than 100 miles)

Last rider home in the dark accompanied by the MX guys who gave her some light. Fantastic effort guys 🙂

On the off chance, anyone know how John Warnock did - he'd have been wearing purple/yellow Las Vegas kit. Finished 5th last year.

If the crasher on the rigid 29er was on a Swift then I was talking to him afterwards - he was going to have a few beers then see about getting some stitches I think.

Clubber - He finished probably around 10 hours 'cos he passed us as we were pootling down the last four miles into Kielder. Didn't fancy it yourself then?

And thank you Diane - yes 56 miles felt like a very long way, particularly when the lad I'd ended up riding with was nursing a broken chained, broken mech hangered bike that I'd singlespeeded for him. It was just my legs that had "mechanicaled"

A singular, all blue kit with tattoo on leg and braces on. ? That was him, he was f'ing fast by the way.

Think he was outside top 10, not definite on that one though

Done it in about 13 hrs and Im ****ed. Made the 1st cut off with 35 minutes to spare, the 2nd in plenty of time and the 3rd by 2 minutes. The last 20 miles were terrible for me but I just kept plodding along.

I got round in just over 11 hours. Putting the climb from the reservoir to the top of Lonesom pine in the last 10 miles was just evil.

Otherwise really really enjoyed it. Found it easier* than I thought I would making the cuttoffs easily. Might try for closer to ten hours next year but we were lucky with the nice weather, must have been a whole heap harder for the guys who did the first one.

If you are thinking of doing it just buy your entry when it opens and get out riding as much as possible throughout the year. Great motivation for some fantastic training rides (think big full day adventures, not circuits) and by the time you think you can do it, it will be sold out. 650 on the start list this year, I bet there are more entries next year.

*Still completely ****ed, my hands still tingle and if I bend down it's a massive effort to get back up!

I feel surprisingly good this morning. Managed 9 and 1/2 hours. Anyone measure the distance. We clocked it at 107 miles.

Great event and will be back next year. But don't rely on
the feed stations. Where were the gels and fruit cake the organisers promised on the website!

6 broken ribs.

Thanks to those that stopped and helped.

I clocked it at 107 miles too - a couple of people with Garmins recorded 102 miles.

Sam - he seemed OK(ish) or maybe the pain didn't set in until later. And was busy building up a Pegasus in his mind when I spoke to him.

Speaking of which the bike was great - even if the engine wasn't.

i did it in 9.43. great ride, one of the best rides of my life. i still think that alot of mtber's under prepare on fitness, food and drink. dread to think wot world of pain you would have been in if you didnt drink - eat right. some great encouragement from the riders although i did spend 20mile or so on my tod! did the whole of the fire track from newcastleton on my own.

great ride though, maybe a sub 9hours next year?

Was a tail end charlie at over 13 hours but made it - got cramp in both legs at 30 miles - saw alot suffering with cramp - need to sort that for next year - bike was fine - some of the red surface's were truly awful. Thought it was really well organised and a great event - suspect it will could get even bigger. Midge hell though.....

Fair play to Ant White & Rich Rothwell - I was ahead of them at Newcastleton (60-something miles in), they nailed it round the 2nd half of the course!

13:00:22 for me. A full hour faster than last year and I got a prize for not being last 🙂

The course was apparently harder than last year despite the better conditions, but I felt a lot better.

I don't think the course was harder to be honest.I think I ache more this year because it was a lot faster and drier so felt obliged to ride it harder!

Well, came 11th overall which was good and bad

Good to finish but bad because i was lying 8th until 2 punctures in the final 4miles lost me 4 places and heaps of time.

Deffo a weird experience. By 25 miles i was ready to give up ( too fast a start maybe?), at 33 i was thinking, shit, thats only 1/3 distance covered. I was riding with Rich for about 60 odd miles and we both somehow missed the water station at 33 so we ended up sharing my bottle till we came back round to it (AH, there it is!!). By the 50 mile marker i was glad to be half way, and got joined by Ant White , although my computer ws showing 52 miles.

Dan on the ss singular joined us just after the 'puddles of doom' section and he was setting a cracking pace and suprisingly enough we dropped Ant White at that stage. Heading up over the border was physically so tough, as if they forgotten to bed the stones in. By that time i had dropped Rich and Dan but Dan got me a few miles later where minutes later on the downhill crashes severely. I turned round to check him, he was not great but nothing broken etc so i continued on but by that time Rich caught me. Moments later at Newcastleton, a quick stop ( next time get some chain lube you fool), and we must of passed 'twinklydave' and i veered out in front of Rich managing to catch Paul Ashby just after Newcastleton trail centre. He was fatiguing badly along that massive riverside fireroad so he draughted me until next feed station where Ant had caught us. Eventually me , Ant and Paul set a good pace home catching a puncture victim. By time we got to Kielder trails my speedo was showing 98 miles but guy informaed us 6.5 miles to go? Huh!. Anyway, i f'in hate that trail centre surface and just before the end of the final climb my tyre blew out. Ant and Paul continued ahead whilst i fixed the flat. By time i had completed that i could see Rich just heading up the climb so off i went, realising my air cannister hadn't giving my rear tyre nearly enough pressure but thinking 5 miles to go i'll hang on. Up the horrible switchbacks to be met by 2 lovely girls saying 1 mile of climbing then all downhill (huge lie). Anyway, got to final descent and bam, rear tyre went again. Fixed it but Rich had passed me before shooting off to the finish. What a hard epic ride.

This year though, i got food and drink spot on and although at times i struggled to stay within the group, overall i felt pretty good. The last 6 miles from kielder centre were easily the worse for me

Feel broken today.

Got round in 11hrs 3 mins which is half an hour faster than last year and 118th overall. Solid mid-table mediocrity! Actually, it may be well into the upper half of the finishers but I'll have to wait until the results are published.

Felt really good in the first third, despite having had a bastarding head-cold last week; however it caught up with me on the section across the border and down into Newcastleton. Spent far too long stuffing my face with soup, tuna rolls and coke then felt a bit naseous on the relatively easy section back across the border.

The last twenty miles felt ok energy-wise but I was having trouble with my achilles tendon which was getting more and more painful with each pedal stroke. The last "6 1/2" miles are just utter torture but I got chatting to an Irish lad and the miles passed quickly enough.

No mechanicals all day - bike was absolutely perfect.

Very relieved to get to the finish - everything hurts today!

I think I missed my top 50 target finish and my sub 10-hr time.

My guts were a rotten mess after Newcastleton. Not stictches but really painful. I tried a couple of times to go easy, stop and breathe deeply, but it wasn't stitched so didn;t work. Had a lie down for 10 minutes, which fixed me for a short while 😆 . Got it again and had another lie down. Lost maybe 20 riders going past?

Tried to eat another gel with 10 miles to go but got bad stomach again and had to MTFU through to the finish. So all in, I drank maybe 2 litres of water and a dozen gels and bars.

Legs had a load more left in them too, just couldn't push it 👿 Gotta go for sub 9 hrs next year.

Finished about 60th in 10:10.

I clocked 105 miles too.

Feeling fatigued today, despite all recovery drinks (more accellerade, anyone?)&/because of the beer 😀 . 11:35hrs was as much as I think I could have done this time, but next year I'll definitely put more hours on the bike. Thought course was good with some fantastic 'hidden' sections, having ridden Kielder trails before knowing that the Lonesome Pine climb was coming after my speedo said 100mi just finished me off!
Just have to say a big tanks to JonB, without whom I don't think I'd even have got around, how any of you managed to do it on your own I have no idea 😀 - And 'Ha ha!' to the guys laughing at my enormous drop bags FYI I ate it all 😆
Will be doing it next year as enjoyed the course, scenery & sense of achievement, but will be investing in some form of full body insect protection to guard against the midgies as my arms & legs are now deformed & all lumpy!

Great day out and great bunch of people. Did approx 12 1/2hrs. Disapointed with the time, but hey made it to the finish and that's all that counts for a 1st attempt. Thought the finish was a bit of an anticlimax. Why didn't they have the finish where we started by the castle? Oddly I ate too much and felt sick as a dog all the way around, then felt fab the last 20miles. Will be back next year. For the record I to made it 107miles! Oh and I won't attempt to drive the 3 3/4 hrs back to North Wales after the event again. On my list of stupid things I've done, that comes near the top! See ya next year.

13 1/2 hours for me. I think the worst bit was the slog to make the last cut off. And then not being sure if making it was actually a good thing. Although the stony bit to the border wasn't exactly happy making either.

Still, pleased I managed it this year. Never again though.

DNF and feeling no shame, 60 miles (63 by my comp) most of which must have been uphill. On another note anyone still to set of south should avoid the A1 around scotch corner 90 minutes to do mile two so far .

Crashed after ten miles and lost my Front rake due to a leaking hose, rode the last 94miles (Garmin made it 104.68) with just the rear brake, somewhat character forming to say the least, feel like I have had an out of body experience, cracking event, did 10:50, wanted to beat ten hours but maybe next year with two brakes.

Morning!

Cracking event well done to all and some just cracking times going through. What a great event over 500 racers and 99.99999% where lovely with lots of praise.

Big up to Swinterton Cylcles for their tech support and of course to Paul and Sara for making such a great event, so nice to see a big event in my area. Also great support from the locals and FC bods really nice to see people behind it.

Sorry and huge praise to Simon for coming up with a 100 miles course.

Yeah the young lad, Rich, got his wheel fairly true think the damage was 5 spokes and god knows how many loose.

Oh Sam, Dan has some deep wounds that needed cleaned properly and maybe stitched/glued. I couldn't do anything for him there as had nothing to clean it with sufficently and had no glue. Make sure he does as he fibbed about his arm, Makin showed me a pic of it and it was a right mess.

I had hoped for a sub 10 hour time, and was on schedule until just before that big climb before the piper, but then I blew up. Made it in 10.46 which I am still please with, as just finishing the event was punishment enough. Was a bit annoyed there were no Gels at the feed stations, as I hadn't carried that many with me.

The results are up: http://www.sportident.co.uk/results/2010/KielderMontane100/

I was 287th 🙂

Only 347 finishers, out of 550(?) starters. 63% finished, which is about the same drop out rate as last year, I think.

I missed the 56 mile [which was nearer 58] cut-off by 8 minutes & was sent down the the last decent back to the finish just in front of the leader
I pulled over to let him though & then followed him over the finish line

That'll be the closest I ever get to the winner at the end of a race 🙂

I suffered badly with lack of fitness & stomach cramps

My best memory was the young cadet at 40mile water station, who was balling at riders to stay left or right and to "clear the track" He'll make sargent before he's 14!

Great race. Well organised. Food and water stops just right. I made it 103 miles on my garmin.
Pleased with 11:19 but the last 5 miles were hard and I lost a few places, but the bike was 100% and no punctures.

I finished! 12 1/2 hours, 7 of them with mental tendonitis in both knees, i can hardly bend my right knee today, but so chuffed i got round! seems a shame so many people didnt make the cut off, or pulled through not having the legs, maybe if the organisers could do a shorter race within the main race, a Kielder 50, that might be a bit more appealing to some?

Back at the registration tent where you picked the blip back up from then you get your free beer, food, and water bottle.

Trev part of the problem although not all is that you get people attracted to the event to do it for charity as a challenge as it appeals to sponsors. They then find out just what a 100 miles on a mountain means in the hills of Northumberland and suffer. Then there's mechanicals, injuries and those that for what ever reason try hard as they can but sadly just miss out.

Well that was an experience. Thanks to the organisers and all the marshalls, that cadet was doing a cracking job keeping the wayward bikers in line.

IGM bad luck with the mechanicals, thought I heard your voice at one point but didn't see you, you weren't SSing were you? trying again next year?

Me and my team mate nailed it at the 95 mile point (according to his computer) only to hit the 10 mile to go sign at the 97 mile point. Soul destroying especially when you've just give it everything. I blew big style in last 5 miles and lost 10 mins to my team mate. I was cursing the organisers with unrepeatable swearing! 😆

11.53 for me and 202nd although I was stuck behind about six people on the last 200m of singletrack 😉

Really good though and felt much easier than last year even with the extra climbing. The organisers said it was 14,500ft altogether with most of that in the first part! I was concerned how they would cope with so many riders compared with last year but they did brilliantly. Thanks to all involved.

Where were you drac?

Oh, and I'm probably being stupid but what are the 'mp' times at the bottom of the results?

Every where.

I was at registration from about maybe 7.30 on the Friday and then I was doing the bleepers as you went around to the start. Then I was a lube man at Tech 3 at Newcastleton feed station.

Tall, skinny, thin on top and a blue T-shirt.

missed point maybe? looking at the splits the dnfers don't have a final time so maybe didn't "dib" in at the end the MPers do have a time. MP didn't do the whole course but did dib in is my guess.
