Having looked at Postierich's lovely Ti Indy Fab, it reminded me that I have some Jones'd XTR cranks in the garage.
Would love to use them again, but I stopped because rings were a bugger to find for them - bloody Shimano speccing a 103bcd!
Does anyone do nice (but not too expensive!) 103bcd rings anymore? Or could you safely file a 104bcd one to fit?
Check out wolftooth for single chainrings that fit the XTR 960. I had a mate who machined the bolt holes in my cranks, so they would take standard chainrings .Worked fine until I broke the axle doing a small jump.
It's actually 102bcd not 103. Try these people https://www.garbaruk.com/chainrings/round-mtb.html?category=1&search=&attrib=10-56&attrib= or i've got a wolftooth for sale on ebay

Yes, you're right. Dunno where I got 103bcd from?
Hmmm, that Garbaruck ring ends up $80 with shipping.
...and your Wolftooth is £70 for a used ring.
Cheers 🙂 but not exactly cheap!
All the options seem a bit pricey, especially for a set of cranks for my singlespeed. I don;t need fancy narrow0wide machining.
I've got a relatively unused On-One stainless steel ring.
I might try taking a dremel to the holes and see if I can make that fit.
33 tooth one here for under £20
33 would mean it's not narrow wide though
He said on the post before he didn't need narrow wide. It has been sold now
Dead easy to oval the holes (on the chainring), it's a bodge but a safe one and not likely to cause any problems, people have been doing it forever on these.
There is another way.............
I had some XTR cranks and built them up for my sons bike, I fitted a standard 104BCD ring.
I had some offset bushes made to spigot between the crank and the rings, then run standard M6 button head bolts to clamp everything together.
I havnt tried it without the offset spigots but it would probably work ok, certainly worth trying on a hack bike.

Cheers for the replies everyone 🙂
That 33t Blackspire would've done nicely, but someone snapped it up!
Anyway, I've just been in the garage and filed/dremelled out the holes, and my On-One 33t stainless ring now fits nicely.
Not sure why I'd never thought to do that before.
