Im lucky to be spending 2 weeks based between Saalbach and Hinterglemm in Austria on a family holiday. I can get a short ride in the afternoon most days. Unfortunately this week its been raining most days. last week I hear was quite a bit wetter.

I did the Hinterglem B route yesterday and that was a bit of a mud fest, and had loads of little water filled clay pools made from braking bumps. The freeride course looked even muddier. Unfortunately the lift guys made everyone wash their bikes after each descent so we only managed to get one run in before lift close.

I did the Saalbach "X" line the day before in the rain and despite being very sketchy in places was still great fun, and there are quite a few innovative fun bits & not many real "clay" mud pools like in Hinterglemm. Its also a very long descent(6.5km)

It must be tough for the course designers to keep stuff going with the rain. On Saturday we are lucky enough to be doing some singletrack from Leogang with some locals so that will probably be way less muddy than the busier official DH courses.

I guess the unusual rain here is caused by the distorted weather patterns we've had this summer. Relatives called from the Scottish highlands to say that they've had great weather. We did Glentress Inners & Aye a few weeks back and were lucky then too.

If it makes you feel better, I wouldn't say that the weather sounds particularly unusual. I've had several weeks in the French Alps where 5/6 days were a wash out. Still great riding but we could've been anywhere as far as the views were concerned (ie mist fog & cloud).

Sounds like you're still getting some good riding in though ๐Ÿ™‚

Cheers FBK yes the riding is still fun and v.challenging. We had a very rainy 1 week out of 2 in Les Gets a few years back. Family still is smiling though!! Off to the outdoor pool now!! ๐Ÿ™‚

We had some suspect weather this year on our roadtrip. Days of baking hot sunshine, then a day of horrific rain, and a few days to recover, repeat for 3 weeks.

Worst for weather was the PDS. Normally late July/August is safer than early season, but this year it appeared to be the other way round.
