[#12111854]

We've just got an Islabike Cnoc 14 in great condition from a friend. I'd like to wrap or tape it to keep it in good condition for both kids and eventual resale. My son will be using it first. It's purple/pink which I don't think he will be bothered by at all, neither am I. But in thinking about taping it, I realised there could be the possibility of using some coloured tape or wrap to make it look different. This could then be removed and re-done to make it look like a 'new' bike for my daughter when the time comes.

Maybe I could clear wrap or tape the tubes then use some sort of coloured tape on top. I've used heli tape before but not vinyl wrap. I wouldn't be going for a complete and seamless wrap. I think black wrap with the tube joints left purple would look great

Any ideas?

Lots of option nowadays, depend on how much you wanna spend.. Invisframe being the obvious and most expensive (admittedly I don't know if they do Islabike kits), local shop is selling a product called Dyedbro a universal frame protection to fit most bikes, with many awesome designs to choose from. I've not tried it but it sounds like a option for you if you want to change the frames look

I came across the Dyedbro ones recently. I think all the designs are on a transparent backing though. Ideally I don't want to spend too much.

I wonder if I could clear tape the bike then put something on top of that. It doesn't have to last forever.

Paint on Islas is tough.

Ours has had many owners and still looks fine after plenty use with a quick t cut for the next owner.

@trail_rat up until the latest models the paint has been gloss. It's now slightly matt, not sure if it will T-Cut up the same now. I use Autoglym Super Resin Polish on bike frames and it works a treat

Also, I'm hoping to stop paint being bashed off, not just scuffed.

Heli tape the cable rub points and it'll be looking well above average come resale time.

Also worth a look at photos of 2nd hand ones on ebay/Facebook to figure out the common bash points.

The tricky one is the fronts of the brake levers, but you'd be hard pressed to find a 2nd hand one that hasn't been scuffed there.

Exactly what I have been doing 🙂 Seems like top tube, forks and chain stays, plus cable rub points

Yeah, I think people accept all second hand Islabikes will have that

I went past a rack of fancy duck tape in homebase the other day.

https://www.duckbrand.com/products/duck-tape/prints/leopard-188-in-x-10-yd

Cheap and easy enough to change regularly?

My son is on a second hand Isla bike. It was covered with scratches and heli tape.

He absolutely loves it!

@tall_martin

That's the sort of thing I was thinking of. The only issue is duck tape leaves so much residue

WD40 works well on tape residue.. let it soaks in and then wipe clean

@dmorts

Why take it off? Just stick another layer on top 🙂

I use helitape on all our bikes. It stood up to all sorts of abuse on both Islabikes and certainly helped with resale value. Remember to protect the cable runs.

I'm slightly sad that kids bikes need helitaping. Kids bikes should be scratched-to-**** from all the bad parking. Helitape not much use when you reverse your car over one abandoned on the drive.
