[#2581858]

i was hoping to find a suitable group of riders to start riding with. the quantocks/mendips.i would be traveling from highbridge . I am 25 years old riding a santacruz blur LT, started on a GT i drive.

basicaly i have been cycling now since 2007 -XC, and competeing in various events ELBNO,Exmoor Explorer, merdia events, training out of Malvern and nurmous welsh trail centers also trips to cannock chase in birmingham. i was riding with ints, semi pros and pros (Tracy Mosley and Ed and others.)
as i had a requalary day job 7-3.30 and fire-fighting on top. this made getting out for rides easy at least 3x a week .

i am now employed by Avon and Somerset Police as PCSO working in Bristol. working on a 6 day rotational shift pattern 3 days 3 lates 3 days off . this has made it difficult to get out on the bike(not always able to make saturday/sunday rides) and the birth of my daughter hasn't made it any easier also highbridge/burnham is lacking in routes.

So at the moment my fittness level is no where near as good as it was i am currently some 30 mins off last years exmoor explorer time my last "Race". so proberly need a group with the Beginer Inter fast and the options of moving to suit as i dont think it will take to long to find my grove again.

"So at the moment my fittness level is no where near as good as it was"

That's good. We stand a chance of keeping up 🙂

The usual suspects will be along soon. The Mendip (occasionally, very slightly) Bad Boys include: ScienceOfficer, Clink, Candodavid, Elliptic, Flatfish, Rainbow, jti26 and anyone else we can press gang. I'm invariably the slowest but I'm good with a saw and shovel. Someone is usually doing something every weekend. Feel free to post/email if you want to join in. Also have a google for Shipham MTB - "it's not a club, but a collection of like-minded individuals".

BTW. Since you're a copper, how do you feel about access and rights-of-way?

Roland: Did you know Big Pete's sold the shop on to some fella who's affiliated with Yeovil cycles? Pete's out of the bike business for now. Jim is still doing spanners there.

Hi Buzz - we did a late one from the Swan (met at 1). Dave's first ride for a while - great to have him back. Trails were fab. Bit sore as I went otb on a suitably tame piece of trail 😳

Nice! I reckon your front suspension dived and threw you off - not your fault 😉

I was with Snaps and Rainbow (aka Mendip aka Guy) on the Qs. Cracking weather wasn't it? T-shirt weather again.

BTW I recently did some "tidying" on trails descending in the vicinity of Link Lane (nudge). Especially a long-disused little combe with a pungent smell of wild garlic (wink).

in answer to ROW......

Dont care when off duty happy to ride anything................
normally go with a sensible attuide and approch to all other trail users. ( considerartion care etc) however not everyone has a similar approch. i also drive a 4x4 and regulary use BOATS legally so aware of ROW issues.

as for fittness/speed definatly not super fast anymore. will do the google search to! 😀

Bike City Wells is now part of the Tri-UK shop in Yeovil - Hopefully with Jim still there it might be half decent.

Im Yeovil based, we ride the Mendips, Quantocks, Puddletown, Ham Hill and trips to cwmcarn every now and then oh and a Ashton court one coming up too.
(My riding group are Yeovil, Glastonbry, Bristol and Chepstow so got your area covered!)

I have riden with Buzz on a STW ride and he is a great guy and I am sure would show you some great spots on the Mendips.

If you want to give me a PM (email in profile) I am sure we could organise a ride, my group are fairly fit and like to hammer the downs / tech stuff (come from a DH background) but I'd like to think we are welcoming and encouraging to any skill / fitness level.

Hi,
To echo the comments of others:

a) you sound way to fast for me,

b) however, I'm Wells based and happy to add my name to the list of riders to e-mail if you want to meet up for a ride, as long as you don't mind waiting for me!
