[#743673]

I'm currently looking at replacing my creaky ISIS BB with a hollowtech II crankset, and have seen a couple of good deals on Deore and LX.

The LX crankset at Merlin is described as having an 'integrated bottom bracket'. Does this mean in future, if the BB wears out, I have to change the whole crankset? (Rather than just swapping the BB?)

no you can just change the B/B or even just the bearings if you like.

Thanks for the quick reply.

Just out of interest, would people go for the Deore crankset (M532) or the LX crankset (M580)?

I think that the LX one on special at Merlin is only the 48/36/26 touring version so probably no good to you if it's for offroad riding. You'll need a 44/32/22 version (unless you have legs of steel!).

I have XT and SLX and the SLX is far better value and i can't tell the difference when riding them.

I also bought an FSA V-Drive for £65 in the FSA sale from On-One for the GF's bike and am quite impressed with it, especially for the price.

Went for the LX from merlin (end of range I presume), I'm going to run it with a 22/36/bash ring setup like I do on my current Truvativ set. Will replace the 26 with my current 22.

Just bought forks so didn't want to stretch to the SLX crankset. Hope I don't regret it... 🙁

I have had the M580 for 16 months now from new - apart from replacing the chainrings (middle and outer) with the merlin 7 series alu ones they have been good - I must admit the BB went early 1 yr and replaced with a hope one however my neighbours set are still going strong. Good value for money IMHO in this expensive time!
