Can anyone recommend insurance for 'extreme' sports? Going to Chamonix boarding for a week and then doing a week biking in the alps including Megavalanche in July/ Is it worth trying to get annual or combined cover for both. Any recommendations for companies?

Also what's the deal with insurance and going off piste in France?

Snowcard or the BMC. You should be able to get an annual policy to cover both, but be careful with the small print re. the Mega as it may be classed as "competing" in which case you may need a higher level of insurance.

Either of those companies will ensure you off-piste, without a guide, in France. Watch the policy wording with other companies as the may try to only insure you if with a guide or use some weaselly words about the acceptable level of avalanche risk.

try sports cover direct top up. This is for when you have normal travel insurance and only need it 'topped up' for mountain biking, although never had to claim so not sure how easy it would be.
