[Closed] Installing stem upside down

I’ve just stuck a reach adjust headset on the Mega, but one unwanted byproduct was additional height.

I’ve removed all the spacers under the stem, but it was still too high.

I’ve got a Horizon stem that says it offers + and - 5mm rise. I assume this means it can be installed upside down, which I’ve done.

However, as the instructions mention nothing specific about this, I'm wondering if this is ok and if the zero gap element of the clamp should now go at the bottom. Anyone know about this?

Cheers,

JP

Yes the stem can be fitted upside down to give -5mm rise.

The faceplate isn’t directional so for as normal leaving no gap at the top and the gap at the bottom.

Had a customer come into the bike charity i was working for with her stem on BACK TO FRONT 😯 so the bars were behind the headtube and it looked ridiculous as it sounds, but she wouldn't accept advice that it was too bizarre to be anything other than unsafe.

Negative reach stems in the shops within 6 months.

Cheers guys.

If do remember doing an oil change on some Bombers, bolting it all back together, then realising I’d put the lowers on backwards. Doh!

i guess those cruiser and shopper bikes have their bar extend to negative offset?

re the nukeproof with zero gap...i've got the same stem.. are you sure it can be zero gapped the other way? id like confirmation.. because as i see it, the stem would be machined as one with that side screwed together. my concern would be that if the other side was bolted up, the 2 halves would be none concentric, which would probably be fine for alumnium bars.. but not carbon IMHO
