Hi all, this is my first proper post. Today I'm here to tap into the vast collective knowledge that is the world famous STW forum hivemind. Sure it's been done before but what tyres for...

But really folks, should I buy a Truvativ Stylo 3.3 Chainset or an SLX? Hmmm, am just about to toss a coin. So is it heads (Stylo) or tails (SLX)? Mostly ride rufty tufty Scottish Highlands trails and trail centres. The chainset is to replace a shimano octalink jobby.

Cheers.

Tails.

I have the SLX and it seems very stiff, looks good and the BB lasts a lot longer than the Deore one (6-12 months IME). It's not too heavy either.

I think the deciding factor is that with the Shimano part you get a lot more choice of replacement bottom brackets when the OEM one inevitably fails as apprently (I'm told) aftermarket BB's for the SRAM part a much less common.

No contest.Slx.Shifts betterer and the BB's are'nt pish. You also get the choice of cheap replacement bb's via Rosebikes or posh one via hope/king etc (without the use of adaptors).
Also the splines won't wear after a couple of years.

No brainer. I have both (well to be exact I have a Stylo 2.2 and two sets of SLX). SLX is stiffer, the BBs last longer, the chainset is easier to maintain - aside from swapping the chainrings - and the chainrings themselves last much longer.

The Stylo is a really nice crankset leagues better than the Race Face Evolve XC I had before, but SLX is on another level.

I have the Stylo 3.3 crankset, but woudn't bother getting another. Bottom brackets are rubbish. A replacement lasted 3 months, so I ended up forking out for a hope. I should imagine Shimano would last a bit longer.
