Lost my uppy downy cherry tonight with the aid of a Joplin (lever version). I realise that the lever aids the raising of the post after having been depressed but should the post be able to be lifted (when off the bike) without the lever?

I assumed the post wouldn't go up unless the lever is used - mine can be lifted manually (it drops back down) without resistance.

Thanks

It'll do this - but it's not a good idea.

Druid - what do you mean its not a good idea? It does it without any force i.e. when the post is 'low' I can just lift it up without the lever.

Do you mean "it does it but leave it alone"?

Yep - it does it, but it's bad for it.

this is normal for a joplin that when lowered the seat can be pulled up to full extension but then drops back down again to where you had it set. it is air pressure that lowers it and there is no resistance to pulling upwards.
Do not be laramed just be careful when you pick the bike up by the seat - i doubt you can break it doing this FWIW but you will soon learn to remember.
Essentially it is not locked in the down position.
Bad how druidh? it is just a gas/oil pressure piston thingy why will it break/cause probs? I agree it is not wise to do this but am not aware of a fault arising due to this are you- that is not a sarky q iirc you work in the trade.

IIRC, it can cause air to be sucked into the system, affecting the operation of it.
