Thinking of buying one of these secondhand.

Anybody got any opinions/warnings/things to look out for?

How risky is it buying a secondhand carbon frame?

Well given that I've seen three in my local bike shop for warranty replacement (they had all come apart quite drastically), as well as a number on here that have had issues, I would say that it was very risky buying that particular model second hand.

I bought mine SH and Ibis were fine with the warranty when it came to a damaged swingarm.

The previous owner hadn't registered it though.

What shop (stif?), and when you say 'come apart pretty drastically' do you mean catastrophic failure?

I did a quick search, and couldn't find many reliability problems - are you able to point me in the direction of any affected owners?

Thanks.

Now buying anything 2hand is always a risk i have brought a few pups in the last 2yrs costing me a lot, would have been cheaper to buy new. with carbon i would look good and close any sign of damage walk away, if its clean and tidy no battle scares you should be ok.

cannot argue with ibis, had a clear black carbon 3yrs old looking a bit sad as the clear coat was piting in a few places . got in contact with ibis asked to send it to them (yes i was not happy to) sent it 3 days later they have decided to replace under warranty. 3yrs use £88 postage new bike sounds good to me.

Does it have the Lopes link? You want this.

Mine has been ridden very hard and is going strong. It has plenty of scrapes and scars. I can't imagine anyone would pay much for it looking as it does, but it performs just as good as when I first started riding it.

be aware that the uk distributor has just changed

keep an eye out at the lower pivot on the main frame

Mine collected muck/peaks grit between the DW link and the lower pivot (the clearance is tiny) and gradually ground down the carbon in the swing arm.

not with a helmet and beard like that! yes the lopes link clearance is very small but they are plenty tough so I wouldn't worry too much.

Why?

Lets just say warranty issues, something that thankfully 2Pure are good at with Crank Bros.
Its no secret that Ibis frames are not exactly renowned for being the most durable.
