So the boss has come back from Les Gets and did a bit of xc lite riding and now wants a bike for riding about at home. Realistically he's not going to take it off road very much if at all so I reckon I hybrid is his best bet. He does like my Rohloff but again that's totally over the top for his needs so I was thinking something with an Alfine 8 or Nexus would be ideal. So what's out there that would do the job? I haven't got a budget from him but I reckon I could persuade him to spend up to £800.

With maybe a flat bar?
If you can find one, a Carrera Subway 8 from Halfords is a bargain. About £300, and in two sizes (18 and 20 inches I think).
Phone around some Halfords shops.
That on one looks good, I reckon that with the flat bar would be perfect.
I've actually got a friends Subway 8 with the Nexus hub in the garage at the moment while he's no where to keep it. It needs the cabling sorted but he might want to sell it as he only bought it because a friend offered it to him for £50.
