[#7597540]

Hi everyone. Long time subscriber first time poster (that's how these things start eight?). I've recently relocated to Huddersfield and I'm interested to find out of there's any really local rides good for an afterwork blast.

I'm familiar with the major well know routes in the Peaks and Storthes Hall and I'm not expecting a world class secret single-track hidden in my garden, but any advice would be appreciated.

Mirfield based if you ever fancy a blast down the road. Regular ride from Brighouse and some good riding out towards Homfirth and Marsden.

Check out strava for tonnes of inspiration, that, an OS map and a couple of locals and you're set.

There are a lot of decent bridleways and cheeky paths around Golcar & Milnsbridge, you have to be prepared to include bits of road to link things up. Check out the sweary northerners' vids as a lot of their stuff is around Kirklees and Calderdale.

Thanks for the advice guys, good to know there's plenty of stuff around.
I'm on New Hey Road just down from the Sainsburys. If anyone knows a loop from Outlane that would great for after work.
Hora, Sandwicheater, well up for meeting some fellow riders. Heard Hebden Bridge has plenty of steep stuff! I'm away next weekend but should be free the first weekend in March.

Ignore Sandwicheater, I think he's lost his bike recently 😉 ! If ever you fancy a ride around Hebden Bridge give us a shout. Can do the odd weekend, but mostly ride Tuesday nights, there's also a few of us try to ride most Thursday nights meeting about 8.30. Could also look up Calderdale mountain bike club on Facebook, they ride on a weds night from Salterhebble, probably only 10 mins drive away from you, nice friendly mixed ability bunch

Cheers Dienamic, I'll check our that Facebook group. I work in Manchester and quite unpredictable hours but I'll give you a shout if I can be in Hebden Bridge for a reasonable time soon!

Just back from a loop starting in Greenfield up through Saddleworth to Standedge and down to Marsden then up around Deer Hill Reservoir and over to the Wessendenden road and down the valley back to Marsden and the final climb back to Standedge and Greenfield via Diggle, the hail was a bit of a pain but otherwise a good ride, fantastic area for cyclists 🙂

The woods down in Elland are interesting although I'm not sure about riding back up the Calderdale way afterwards. I work on just below where you live so if you discovery a local loop let me know and I might join you one afternoon.

Get an OS Map look anywhere to the west of Huddersfield. Theres bl..dy loads of routs, legal, bit dodgy, cheeky and down right naughty but it's all there. Goggle Map often helps. Have fun

There'll be a few group rides being organised around Hebden at Easter as part of the #hebdenrising Campaign, there'll be all grades of rides, the cafes will be opening, and could do with some trade, so it'll be a great chance to get to know the area, and put some back after the floods.

Hora - all the names have just been mentioned above but have a look at the map above and below the A62 from Milnsbridge to past Marsden, as far down that is as Winscar Res. That should satisfy anyone new to the areas exploration needs for a while. Theres many a track shown as footpath thats a good track on the ground thats been used for years on horse and bike. Take a look round Meltham, Honley (wood is great fun), Blackmoorfoot, Deerhill, Wessenden (obviously). Reckon you've been to all these places already.

Marks Bottom Lane into Hill from Upperthong always makes me grin.

Hey woody2000 can't do early on a Sunday as I'd be dragging people up to take them over from Manchester!

Cheers nbt. I tried similar years ago - I ended up doing alot of tarmac wondering where I was! At the back of Farnley Tyas I found a great descent though..on my roadbike!

Ditto. I was in the sweetshop in Hebden at the weekend talking to a Lad who was looking after the shop and the stories of Muslims/Sikhs all mucking in over the festive season with hot food etc to help then the kids running a sweetshop with all proceeds going to the shop to help it back up were heartwarming.

Any routes around Mirfield will certainly take in Hopton woods which are pretty smashed up and muddy in places so please be aware of that. Coxley valley also very muddy and probably best avoided, unless it's had a freeze. That whole area is a bit prone to being waterlogged (or at least the bits I know!)

I live in Mirfield so I'd have no excuse not to come along.

Been without a bike for a few months but, should have one built up for this weekend.

Sorry to jump in , but if Cowman or Woody2000 could put a link or two up that would be great . My wife's at Huddersfield Uni on a Saturday once every couple of months & i've thought about going Mirfield way from Grange Moor in some kind of loop & then going back for her later .

Thanks

I live in the top end of Huddersfield and have a few good loops North of the M62 taking in Stainland, Norland, Scammonden etc...

The local challenges like the Pennine X and the Colne Valley Challenge are worth a go as they both have cracking routes and introduced me to areas I wasn't familiar with.

I'd be up for a ride out at some point.
