Hey everyone

I ride a 2008 Kona Caldera and want to replace the, rather crude, 100mm Tora fork. I fancy a Marzocchi 44 RLO which is available as a 120/140mm fork.

Anyone done a similar upgrade to a similar sort of bike? Am I gonna mess the handling and balance up if I stick a massive fork in the front of it or will it actually improve the bike?

120mm will 'probably' be fine, but run it at 140 and you get a serious risk of stressing the frame beyond what it was designed for. ive seen my friend crack his hardtail xc type trek by running too big forks.

do ya feel lucky, punk? ๐Ÿ˜‰

i have ridden 140 mm on frames made for 100 [HT and FS] and it handles well bit is a bit big on the climb - i had u turn though so lowered it
Did not do it for long due to stories of the above so i assume 120 is a reasonable compromise between risk, travel and compromised geometry.

Eeek! Dont like the sound of that. The front seems quite overbuilt for a xc bike - big square tubes with alot of weld area, gusset etc.

Dont fancy the front end coming apart on a tricky descent though! ๐Ÿ˜•
